yo - If I ever turn into John Kricfalusi, shoot me

You know John Kricfalusi. He's the guy behind Ren & Stimpy. He's got this rant about toys on his blog, and what it basically boils down to is "I liked stuff better when I was a kid." He's holding up all these godawful, ugly toys as better than the ugly toys of today, simply because (as far as I can tell) the kind of stuffing they used in the '60s is different than the kind of stuffing they use today.

Cripes, just because you have an inordinate soft spot for the toys you had as a kid, it neither makes them good nor new ones bad. Sorry, Homer, rock didn't attain perfection in 1974 and the world didn't attain perfection the day before you hit puberty.

Waxing nostalgic about terrible toys from our childhoods is one thing, but when you've convinced yourself that they weren't crap? No. If I ever get to the point where I deny the good that's come from modernity just because it's modern, freaking take me out behind the woodshed and crack me in the head with an oar...

    That's it?

Man, I clicked the link to the John K. rant and was all geared up for an in-depth rebuttal.

This reads like a teaser trailer for a proper essay!

... not even toys of today, toys of 15, 20 years ago.
