GI Joe Movie Watch 2 - More actors out, and a release date

Earlier this week we told you that there were questions about which actors would be returning for GI Joe 2, and now there's been one confirmation and one addition:

First, Sienna Miller told IMDB that she'd "compromised [her] values" by doing the movie.

"It was what it was, but I compromised my own values to a certain degree and I didn't feel good about that.

"I'm not very good at fighting. And I'm not very good at guns. And I'm not particularly aggressive. I had to wear sunglasses because every time I shot my gun I would blink. I was completely out of place, like this little midget running round in black leather winning fights, which was just absurd. They did a wondrous job with my wardrobe to make me look threatening.

"G.I. Joe (was) a great pay cheque. If, financially, I'm okay - which luckily I am - there's no point in doing stuff that's not right for me. It's too much time away from home."

Okay, whatever. Then, the next day, Rachel Nichols tweeted "The only characters to return in the JON CHU directed sequel will be SNAKE EYES, STORM SHADOW, and DUKE..." Of course, if the writers are really hoping to introduce a bunch of new characters, then some of the existing ones will need to be pushed aside, logically. Still, it's rather sad.

Nearly as surprising? The fact that Paramount has set a release date for the movie: August 10, 2012.

  1. What's funny is that for most Americans, "G.I. Joe" was probably the first time they ever saw Sienna Miller on screen. I loved her in the role, though I hated the girlfriendization the character had with Duke.

Probably the last time, too. And yes, turning her into Duke's girlfriend was stupid - on the other hand, it makes it easier to recast, since "Baroness" can be a title/position within Cobra, rather than a specific individual...
