I don't know who you're referring to about the Heimdall thing, but if I can just put my 2 cents in: I think it's ridiculous to say that every person who thinks pretending that a single black person and a single Asian person are both part of the same race as otherwise all-white Norse gods is inappropriate is some sort of malicious racist. And the whole "it's not real" thing doesn't make sense when you're specifically dealing with race. Would the same argument be made if one of the members of the Corleone family were black? I'm not denying that there was a lot of hate surrounding the situation, or saying that I think it's unreasonable to have a black Asgardian (maybe Asgard is like Krypton?) but I can see where people were coming from with both sides of the argument. And honestly, did the controversy really warrant more than a single paragraph in a toy review? Do we really have to read "racist dumb^&@%s", "a bunch of stupid inbred crackers", "racists" "hate group" "racists", "racism" "white supremecists" (typo), and another "racists" just to get a review of a piece of plastic we're considering buying? Sometimes it seems like this site has abandoned the whole "buy the toys, not the hype" slogan.
At what point did I ever say every person who thinks that is a racist? Or even imply it in the broadest sense?
If people have forgotten that actual, real-world, "let's protest against miscegenation" racists - a bunch of white guys who literally think black people are an inferior race - tried to boycott a movie just because a character they'd (probably) never read in their lives wasn't cast as a white actor, then yes, it was absolutely necessary to spend a paragraph and a half talking about it. They deserve to be perpetually embarrassed and ridiculed for their head-up-the-ass set of values. If anyone reads, in commentary about Heimdall, that racists were upset with his casting and thinks it's about anything other than RACISTS being upset with his casting, then there's something wrong.
I'm also not sure what any of that has to do with our slogan. Or why you're talking about it here, rather than on the message board...
Plus, there's a "report an error" link on every page. Rules for typos are like terrorism: if you see something, say something.
I mean that it's more about the hype than the toy. If you want to give hate groups attention by ranting about them, there are better places than in a toy review.
There are better places to talk about how a bear trap works, too, but this is the site we've got. And that's still not anything to do with what "the hype" refers to...
