Legendary Monsters

If the cryptids offered in this Kickstarter look familiar, there's a good reason for that: the guy behind them has been trying to make them a reality for over a decade. The prototypes were shown in ToyFare magazine ages ago, with a target release date of Fall 2001. Here's a shot of them from way back then:

There are four figures in the first series, and you can get them all for a pledge of just $90 - which may sound expensive, but break it down and that's just $22.50 per monster. Considering that similarly sized toys cost around $10 these days, and that those mass-market releases don't come with the ornate bases and bonus figures that these do, $90 is a veritable bargain!

The only reason you might be hesitant to pledge your money is that right now, the project looks like it's going to fall very short of its goal. $350,000 is a long way to go. But ah, hold on! In his latest update (posted just yesterday), Broadwater revealed that he's working with a new factory that has lower minimum production numbers, so the project goal should drop from $350,000 to just $60,000! And that's why we're featuring this project now, instead of a couple weeks ago: suddenly, the goal is more in reach! If everyone who said "I'd put in my money, but I don't think they'll make it" actually pledged, they'd make it. So why don't you take a gamble on making a fellow toy fan's dream come true?

That interview we linked above talks about some of the other well-known toylines he's worked on over the years, as well as some of the future projects he has in mind if Legendary Monsters succeeds.

Remember that you can pledge to Kickstarter projects without worry: no money is taken from you until the project closes, and then it's only taken if enough people have pledged to get it "over the hump." If they fall even one penny short, you keep all your money and have risked nothing. So pledge with confidence!

Uhm... how about an actual link to the Kickstarter page.

    • OAFE says:

The link, like it always is, is right there in the widget below the picture of the toys. But good point, we'll add another for convenience's sake.

Thanks for this. I think I'm going to go with the $25 donation and get the Mothman; I've wanted a Mothman figure since playing Persona 3 and that's just not a common cryptid.

  3. yo go re says:

Well, I just pledged my money: I went for the whole set of four. So come on, guys, make this happen so we can review them for you...

  4. PrfktTear says:

I really hope this set goes through! The $60,000 goal is a far cry from 350K!
