Never meanin' no harm

Following the news that Walmart will be doing its part to fight bigotry, Warner Bros. announced that they will no longer be licensing the General Lee for toys. It can still show up elsewhere - T-shirts, lunchboxes, those Auto Trader commercials - but nothing that will show the hate-hanky on the roof.

Honestly, that's kind of a shame. The General Lee is the most famous car on TV, and part of that is its unfortunate choice of roof art. Everyone agrees on that.

The General Lee with a plain orange roof wouldn't look right, but it doesn't have to be a Confederate flag - any red, white and blue pattern would do. Imagine a General Lee with the Puerto Rican flag on the roof! Or heck, the Georgia state flag; that's where the show takes place, after all. Give us an orange car with something on the roof, and we'll be happy.

Yeah, the whole hubbub about the Confederate flag is kinda odd... most of me is just going "what's the big deal? Get rid of it" but a voice keeps saying "but... the General Lee."

I'm probably delusional, but hasn't it been that way on model kits of the General for a little while? I was discussing this at work yesterday with a colleague and image searched it, and the box art I found on the recent 1/25 kit looked like it had a naked roof. I guess folks will have to resort to third party decal makers like they do when getting the correct tail markings for their Luftwaffe models.

I think they either leave the roof blank on the box, or angle the car so you can't see it, but still include it on the actual model (at least as decals)...

  3. Even if you get rid of the confederate flag, the car itself is NAMED after Confederate General Robert E. Lee, so there's still a pro-slavery message intertwined with it. Maybe the Duke Boys should just start taking the bus.

Wait. That could still be construed as racist if they sit at the FRONT of the bus. How about they start riding skateboards? That would be cool.

Never mind that, what about the Haunted Tank?
