Minimate Mini-Review #331 - Itsy Bitsy Spider-Man & Spider-Man Noir

#331 - Spider-Man Noir/Itsy Bitsy Spider-Man

A resident of the Noir universe, this darker Peter Parker has severed all personal ties in order to protect the ones he loves.

Spider-Man Noir was introduced in Marvel's 2009 "Noir" event, which was really just a series of loosely connected miniseries that reimagined Marvel characters as 1930s pulp characters. Peter Parker was bitten by a spider and got powers, but he wears a black costume, a trenchcoat and a fedora. Marvel Universe made a Spider-Man Noir figure, but this one gets removable costume pieces, so he wins. The hat and coat are reused, and you'll definitely want to leave them off at least part of the time, because that's the only way you'll get to see all the neat details captured in the paint apps, like the stitches on his mask or whatever's going on with his gloves. He should really have a gun, too - Noir Spidey is violent!

Transformed into a toddler by Asgaardian magic, a tiny Spider-Man must escape D.A.Y.C.A.R.E. in order to defeat Loki.

Yes, DAYCARE: the Daily Advanced Youth Character And Regimented Education center. It's a part of SHIELD. Itsy Bitsy Spider-Man comes from the Ultimate Spider-Man episode of the same name. Since he's supposed to be a toddler, he gets the small torso also seen on Howard the Duck and the "child" limbs. Since those alone wouldn't be enough to suggest the show's super-deformed style, he also gets a new, larger head. Two of them, in fact - one with big eyes, one half-squinty. The webs painted on his torso are simpler than usual, too.

This set, a Walgreens' exclusive, includes two webs for the figures - Itsy Bitsy's is bright white, while Noir's is gray. Fun work by the toy designers.

    I mean, if Agent Venom doesn't get a gun, Spidey-Noir isn't getting a gun.

But goddamn if these Walgreen exclusives don't see me keep coming back. These look like plain ol' fun. And cheap for them since there aren't any new parts.
