{"id":13054,"date":"2013-07-23T20:46:50","date_gmt":"2013-07-24T00:46:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oafe.net\/blog\/?p=13054"},"modified":"2013-08-16T02:29:02","modified_gmt":"2013-08-16T06:29:02","slug":"hasbro-being-sued-over-sdcc-exclusives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.oafe.net\/blog\/2013\/07\/hasbro-being-sued-over-sdcc-exclusives\/","title":{"rendered":"Hasbro being sued over SDCC exclusives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No, not because the massive fustercluck that was their distribution this year; something much stupider.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.oafe.net\/yo\/art\/gijtfjfhsebrb01.jpg\" width=\"175\" height=\"255\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->\"Harmony Gold\" may sound like a stripper name, but it's actually a production company - a production company best known for \"creating\" <i>Robotech<\/i> in the '80s. We put \"creating\" in quotes because, as you know, <i>Robotech<\/i> was pieced together from three unrelated anime series: <i>Super Dimension Fortress Macross<\/i> (1982), <i>Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross<\/i> (1984) and <i>Genesis Climber Mospeada<\/i> (1983).<\/p>\n<p>Another thing you may already know is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oafe.net\/yo\/tft_wwjf.php\">the history of the <i>Transformers<\/i> character Jetfire<\/a>, which is itself deeply intertwined with <i>Macross<\/i>. And this year at SDCC, Hasbro's \"GI Joe and the Transformers\" exclusive included a Skystriker jet mocked up to look like Jetfire.<\/p>\n<p>So now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.courthousenews.com\/2013\/07\/23\/Transformers.pdf\" target=_blank>Harmony Gold-USA is suing Hasbro<\/a>, claiming that the set violates their copyrights. It sounds stupid, since the <i>Macross<\/i> Super Valkyrie toy was used as Jetfire back in G1, but remember that the comics and cartoons never used the <i>Macross<\/i> design: they both used a modified jet that looked nothing like the toy.
