That's the downside of making the picking process truly random.

The symbol for the Backpack Bunch is a pencil (well, a pencil wearing a tie and glasses, because haters gonna hate, nerds gonna nerd), so it makes sense that one of the items in that bunch would be a pencil itself. Did you know there could be such a thing as a superdeformed pencil? Apparently there can! Because while real pencils are long and narrow, this one is short and fat, like a novelty pencil that's been sharpened and resharpened down to a nub.

BotBots are, by design, simple to convert. In this case, unwrap the arms, fold down the panel from in front of the face, and lower the legs. Robot!

Point Dexter is the bot the Backpack Bunch turns to when they need to draw up a plan. He knows what to do every time. He may be nerdy, but he's always write. Legend has it he's never had to use his eraser.

This may be the best robot mode we've looked at yet - from the front, at least. The side view is a tad plain. Although it's clearly just a pencil that's been hammered into a robot shape, his curvy little arms make him look fierce, and the feet look like actual flappy things on the ends of legs. There's a pink patch on the chest flap that looks like a pocket, almost, and his face is very angry.

Point Dexter is available in several of the BotBots multipacks: a "Sugar Shocks" five-pack with Laceface, Unilla Icequeencone, Sprinkleberry D'uhnut, and Game Over; a "Greaser Gang" eight-pack with Fit Ness Monster, Major Lee Screwge, Poo Sham, Shredder Jack, S'up Dawg, Waddlepop, and Game Over; or a "Jock Squad" eight-pack with Fit Ness Monster, Fottle Barts, Goob Toob, Grit Sandwood, Laceface, Nrjeez, and Clogstopper.

The second series of Transformers BotBots drops three new factions into the world, but it doesn't disregard the old ones. For instance, although we've moved over to a new wing of the mall, there's still an office supply store on the ground level, and that's still home to the Backpack Bunch.

Series 2 may introduce another 60 BotBots, but that doesn't mean 60 new molds. In fact, more than half of them - 34, to be precise - are existing sculpts from Series 1. That's bad news for me, but good news for Hasbro's budget. And really good news for people who love fat pencils, because Series 1's Point Dexter has become Series 2's Scribby.

Her conversion remains the same, naturally: open the arms, pull down the feet, and unfold a panel to reveal the face.

Scribby loves to scribble, doodle, and draw! She's covered in paint splatter because she gets too excited about her next art project to clean up after the last one. Her favorite things are drawing, daydreaming about drawing, and rainbows.

You've got to give BotBots some praise for having the best gender parity of any Transformers property ever - Scribby is just one of 40 female characters available as of Series 2, a number Transformers as a whole took decades to reach, while BotBots has managed to do it since last Christmas. She's painted with colorful splotches all over her face and chest, and her happy little grin reveals a missing tooth.

Scibby is available in several of the BotBots multipacks: a "Music Mob" 5-pack with Dumbeats, Holey Moldy, Songwave, and Sprinkleberry Duh'Ball; a "Spoiled Rottens" 8-pack with Grrr'illa Grimes, Grumpy Clumpy, Hashtagz, Hawt Mess, Lolly Mints, Sour Wing, and Rock Swagger; or a "Swag Stylers" 8-pack with Brock Head, Chic Cheeks, Frizzle Fry, Grumpy Clumpy, Nope Soap, Songwave, and Love Struck.

One of the new tribes introduced in BotBots Series 4 is the Winner's Circle, a group of golden trophy-bots who will judge the other team's efforts to cause mischief in the "Goldrush Games." They pretty much take the place of the previous series' Lost Bots, hiding out in the blind-packed portions of the packages.

Additionally, they're all repaints, rather than anything new. Well, mostly; Liquid Gold the blender won't be showing up in normal colors until Series 5. So here we have the existing Point Dexter/Scribby mold, painted entirely in a slightly metallic gold paint. What use would a golden pencil be? You could neither write nor erase with it. Though there's probably something fun to be said about this fulfilling the alchemist's dream: since the tip isn't black, that means someone has finally turned (pencil) lead into gold.

BotBots are, by design, simple to convert. In this case, unwrap the arms, fold down the panel from in front of the face, and lower the legs. Robot!

The BotBots tribes are competing in the Goldrush Games to see which tribes are the most mischievous! Winning tribes are awarded shiny gold trophy bots from the Winner's Circle tribe! This trophy bot is awarded for the most scientific execution of technically advanced mischief and won't stop until she finds the perfect tribe! Who will grab the gold?

We're just guessing, but... the Science Alliance? This may be a reused mold, but that means it'll be a pretty good robot. The pencillacious origins are readily apparent, but the curved arms are cute, and the feet actually look like something capable of supporting her. The face looks surprisingly distressed. What's got you so worried, Dexy?

Gold Dexter is only available in one of the "Claw Machine Surprise Unboxing" sets - the one with Skitter Chatter and The Cobbler in the clear capsules.
