<\/a>Hailing from the first series of Transformers BotBots<\/i><\/a> (and thus from the first wing of the mall), Goob Toob is a reminder of those halcyon days when there were only eight factions. The Techie Team<\/a> lived in two stores even back then, with Goob Toob playing near the escalator on Level 2.<\/p>\n

TVs used to be large, cumbersome affairs, with a literal glass tube that allowed the picture to be shown. That's why this TV is so thick, with four small feet on the bottom and a big bump in the back. They also used thin metal rods to receive transmissions directly out of the air, which is why there are those two silver things poking out the top. And when a station wasn't broadcasting content, it would often default not to a solid blue screen, but to a \"test pattern,\" a signal used by engineers to check the calibration. The SMPTE color bars are trademarked, so this one just gets four thick stripes.<\/p>\n

BotBots<\/i> are meant to be easy to convert, so all you have to do here is swivel out the arms and swing down the legs.<\/p>\n

Some bots love Goob Toob. Others say he makes bots less smart because he kills their brain cells. Right now, his screen isn't quite working right so he's stuck streaming a show called \"Technical Difficulties,\" which is a show about four blocks of color that don't really do much. If anything's going to kill brain cells, it's a show like that.<\/i><\/p>\n

Gooby is pretty straightforward: he's a robot with a TV for a head, like a more adorable Lord Canti. (Hey, there's your next repaint idea, Hasbro: paint this mold teal and put a pseudo-Atomsk symbol on the screen.) The body is black, while the hands and belt are silver, matching the frame around the screen. The belt is decorated with a power symbol and left and right arrows, suggesting the television's controls.<\/p>\n

Goob Toob is available in two of the Series 1 8-packs: one Greaser Gang, and one Jock Squad. The mold was also used to create Series 2's blind-packed<\/a> TV Cop and again in Series 3, but you'll have to continue to the next page to learn about that.<\/p>\n

<\/a>The Seasons Greeters<\/a>, one of BotBots<\/i>'<\/a> newest factions, come from a holiday store tucked away in a dark corner of the mall - hardly the kind of place that would be selling TVs. But totally the kind of place that might be selling DVDs, and would have a TV handy to show shoppers what they were getting.<\/p>\n

The idea of broadcasting an uninterrupted loop of a crackling fireplace<\/a> began in 1966 at New York's WPIX Channel 11 - since so many New Yorkers lived in homes without a fireplace, the president of the channel felt that giving them a yule log would be a nice Christmas gift. The idea spread from there, and now there are lots of versions aired all over the place - and surely, you could buy your own to play at home whenever you want. Instead of the color bars the first iteration of this mold had, we now get a pair of brown logs engulfed in yellow fire, something cozy for these cold nights.<\/p>\n

Yule B. Bored is an old bot who likes to tell stories that are very (not) interesting. Most bots fall asleep before he's finished. They may not love his stories, but everyone loves curling up in front of the video he plays of the log crackling in a fireplace.<\/i><\/p>\n

While Goob Tube was black and silver and TV cop wore a blue shirt, Yule B. Bored is dressed like Santa: a red jacket with a white band down the center of the cheat, a brown belt with a golden buckle, and shiny black boots. The only thing missing is a hat to go on top of the antennae. On all versions of this mold, if you turn t around and look inside the head, you'll see molded wire details, something that would not really be found on the inside of a picture tube this way.<\/p>\n
