Well, the people who buy stolen factory samples from China so they can be the first to have a figure have begun posting pictures of the Stepford Cuckoos<\/a>, so let's take a look at the current<\/b> Walgreens<\/a> exclusive nobody can find.<\/p>\n

Part of a group of young mutants, Dani Moonstar has the ability to conjure illusions based on her enemy's deepest fears.<\/i><\/p>\n

Well, she used to - Mirage was one of the few \"named\" mutants to lose their powers on M-Day, though (like Storm<\/a> before her) she proved completely capable of hanging with the team even without mutant abilities. Her powers had already been rewritten a couple times throughout her history, and she was initiated as a valkyrie after saving one of Odin's<\/a> winged horses while on a trip to Asgaard, so getting a clean slate was probably in her favor. Of course, with the things currently happening in the X-Books thanks to Jonathan Hickman's House of X<\/i>\/Powers of X<\/i> reboot, she may well be back among the ranks of the powered once again. RESEARCH MONTAGE!!!<\/b> Yes she is! Happened before the reboot, too, in a long, convoluted series of events. Like we've said before<\/a>, it really doesn't matter how.<\/p>\n

No surprise this figure is made on an existing body<\/a>. This particular costume is... most similar to the one she wore in New Mutants<\/i> Vol. 3, though to really be accurate it would need fringe on the boots and a brown tactical belt with holsters (because she had no powers at the time, remember?), but that would have limited the toy's value - we'll get to that in a minute. The costume is appropriate for an X-Men team, a black suit with a giant yellow X covering the entire torso, and a small circular-X logo on the breast. The gloves and boots are new, with panels sculpted on the insides (so really the forearms and shins are new molds).<\/p>\n

The head looks great. Dani has been given a very narrow face, but it doesn't look undersized for the figure, thanks to the way her hair falls around it: she doesn't tuck her hair behind her ears, instead letting it come down in front of them. It's then drawn back behind her shoulders in two long... well, are they braids, or are they just pulled into pigtails? What's going on under those red cloth wraps<\/a>? Despite the fact that they're both sculpted with headbands, Dani's face is not the same mold as Dazzler<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The molds may be beginning to show their age: the wrists are tight where they're supposed to swivel in the forearms, and loose where they're supposed to hinge in the hands. Her accessories include a bow and arrow, because of course<\/b> a Cheyenne character created in 1982 would use a bow and arrow; remember, this is two years before a US Army Staff Sergeant<\/a> was given magical powers and a pet eagle, so the fact that she's not wearing a full feathered headdress into battle is a big, big win. (Although amusingly, she did eventually wear something along those lines, but it was because of Asgaard<\/a>, not because she was a Native American.) The bow is a new mold, but surprisingly, the arrow is sourced from the unreleased swap figure<\/a> - you can recognize it by the small knob at the end that allows the figure to hold it.<\/p>\n

This set also includes parts to turn the figure into either Wolfsbane or Karma, meaning it's going to be three times as in-demand as regular, with people looking to have all of them on display at once. You know, like these exclusives weren't hard enough to find already.<\/p>\n

The newest Walgreens<\/a> exclusive lets you build three figures, so let's pretend they're each their own thing.<\/p>\n

Part of a group of young mutants, Rahne Sinclair has the ability to morph into a fully lupine form or assume a transitional werewolf<\/a> form.<\/i><\/p>\n

The only bio on the back of the packaging is for Mirage, so that text is just our reworking of her copy. Rahne is a devout Christian, raised by the hellfire-and-brimstone Reverend Craig, a Presbyterian minister who constantly berated her and told her she was a wicked sinner. She grew up in an environment of repression and shame, and so was slow to come out of her shell when her friend Moira MacTaggert<\/a> brought her to America... except with Moonstar, whose powers included a rapport with animals, allowing Dani to become very (very<\/a>) close to Rahne thanks to the younger girl's wolf form. (And side note: knowing what we now know about Moira, post-HoX<\/i>\/PoX<\/i>, do you think the reason she took such a motherly interest in Rahne was that she knew, first-hand, what would become of the poor girl if she didn't?)<\/p>\n

Also, she's never been one to wear a full costume over her semi-wolf form, and<\/b> this body is too tall for her - she's always been a wee little slip of a thing. The costume is appropriate for an X-Men team, a black suit with a giant yellow X covering the entire torso, and a small circular-X logo on the breast. The gloves and boots are new, with panels sculpted on the insides.<\/p>\n

There was a Wolfsbane figure before, decades ago from ToyBiz<\/a>, so none of those pieces would stand up to modern standards. That's why this figure gets a new head! Her hair (fur?) is a reddish shade of brown, while her skin is greyer. That, with the distinctly Wolvernie-ish haircut, really makes us think this mold may be reused for an X-Factor<\/a> Wolfsbane<\/a> sometime in the future. (And maybe an X-Force Feral, though the hair should really be bigger for that<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

She also gets new hands with claws on the fingers, something else that would work for an X-Factor uniform. Swapping the head and hands is surprisingly tough; they just don't want to go onto the figure. It's a shame there was no way to give her a tail.<\/p>\n

This set also includes parts to turn the figure into either Mirage or Karma, meaning it's going to be three times as in-demand as regular, with people looking to have all of them on display at once. You know, like these exclusives weren't hard enough to find already. Come to think of it, Magik's<\/a> head would probably fit on here, too. And maybe it wouldn't sit as unnaturally high as the others do.<\/p>\n

Part of a group of young mutants, Xi'an Coy Manh has the ability to overwhelm her enemy's mind, placing her consciousness in command and operating their body by remote.<\/i><\/p>\n

Yeah, she's basically got the same powers as Naruto<\/i>'s Ino Yamanaka, though Karma doesn't pass out when she does it. The only bio on the back of the packaging is for Mirage, so that text is just our reworking of her copy. \"Shan\" was the only member of the New Mutants who had appeared before Marvel Graphic Novel<\/i> #4 - Chris Claremont created her for Marvel Team-Up<\/i> #100, where she (and her doomed twin brother) met Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four. She was the oldest of the New Mutants, joining the team only because Professor X<\/a> offered to give her a paycheck (with all her other family dead, she was in charge of supporting her younger siblings). She was eventually possessed by the Shadow King<\/a>, which left her traumatized, but she was just generally utilized by writers as a gimmick because no one could think of anything to do with her personally. Or her personality.<\/p>\n

That would have limited the body's usefulness with the other accessories though, and she had been wearing the suit for a while before getting mutilated. The costume is appropriate for an X-Men team, a black suit with a giant yellow X covering the entire torso, and a small circular-X logo on the breast. The gloves and boots are new, with panels sculpted on the insides.<\/p>\n

Thanks to comics' sliding timescale, Karma was originally a survivor of the Vietnam War. The second issue of the recent History of the Marvel Universe<\/i> series retconned that into \"the Sin-Cong<\/a> Conflict<\/a>,\" so maybe that's where she's from now? Or maybe her family was just visiting Sin-Cong at the worst possible time. The figure's head sculpt features jaw-length hair held back by a yellow headband, and depicts her powers by painting her eyes solid pink.<\/p>\n

Marvel mental powers are often illustrated by globs of pink energy around the user - witness Psylocke<\/a>, for instance. Everybody gets their own unique shape, though, and Karma's was square and jagged. Hasbro could possibly have created some kind of piece that fit onto the head to represent that, but for the third accessory-derived character in an exclusive item, that was probably too much to ask. So what she does get are a pair of splayed hands, typical for Marvel Legends<\/i> with non-physical powers.<\/p>\n

You know, like these exclusives weren't hard enough to find already. But at least you won't have to create or commission your own custom versions<\/a> to fill up your X-Mansion.<\/p>\n
