<\/a>You know, sometimes I doubt the maintenance conditions of the Transformers BotBots<\/i><\/a> mall. Just look at the east wing<\/a> for instance: why is there an avocado just lying on the floor? A whole bunch of the Fresh Squeezes<\/a> live in a kiosk down there, but that's no excuse to just lay your produce on the floor and expect it to stay sanitary. This isn't a Quiznos!<\/p>\n

Remember in Daredevil<\/i> there was the joke about Nelson and Murdock being \"avocados at law\"? It's because they were having trouble with the Spanish word abogado<\/i>, which means \"lawyer.\" But the modern Spanish abogado<\/i> is an altered spelling of the original term, avocado<\/i> (which came from the same Latin roots as \"advocate\"); the reason the fruit was called that in Spanish was because they<\/b> had trouble with the Aztec word for it, ahuacatl<\/i>. Now, if the Aztecs had a word for \"lawyer,\" I don't know what it is - ahuacatl<\/i> is the word for \"testicle.\" You know, because they look the same: round, lumpy, green, each about 4-5\" long... it's just natural. This one has a little stem poking out the top, and the outside is textured just like the real thing. The real avocado, that is, not the real testicle. The green color is a bit bluer than it should be, and it's solid rather than having any dark variation on the skin.<\/p>\n

Like Sour Wing<\/a>, Avocando is basically just a shellformer: to convert, you open the two halves of the avocado. Oh, but now you also have to pull the legs down! Much better!<\/p>\n

Get pumped! Get hyped! Eat right with Avocando! No more sugars in your boogers! Get some greens in your spleens! Remember, kids, you are what you eat! Never say can't do, say CAN do! Like Avocando! That's me!<\/i><\/p>\n

The robot inside the shell is at least good looking. It actually looks like a robot that might live inside an avocado's skin, thanks to the big brown bump on the belly - that's an avocado pit! The arms and legs are very blocky, contrasting with the round body. The light green is the color of avocado meat, while the darker color matches the skin. The brown \"hair\" is an odd choice, but the face is average for the line: an overdone grin and a blue visor over scrunched-shut eyes.<\/p>\n

Avocando is available in two 8-packs: one Fresh Squeezes, one Goo Goo Groupies. And since an alternate name for an avocado is an \"alligator pear,\" it makes sense that the mold was repainted in Series 4 as...<\/p>\n

<\/a>This, I believe, is a first: as far as I can remember, we have yet to review any repaint BotBots<\/i><\/a> who were part of the same tribe as their original. Like, we can review three tacos<\/a>, but they come from the Greaser Gang, the Fantastic Fuelers, and Los Deliciosos; but Series 3's Avocando was one of the Fresh Squeezes<\/a>, and so is Series 4's Peary Peculiar.<\/p>\n

Pears have a distinctive shape, which this mold duplicates well enough, but they also have a smooth skin, which this former lawyer does not. If you've never just eaten a pear by biting into it like an apple, its skin is thicker and waxier than that, but still smooth. The bright green color here is close to the real fruit's green\/yellow hybrid, and there's a brown app for the little stem poking out the top. And just as avocados were a symbol of male fertility, pears are a symbol of female: their shape is similar to a uterus (upside down), and they were sacred to both Hera and Aphrodite - two of the most, uh... \"physical\" goddesses around. And if Rome's Pomona is really an aspect of Greece's Demeter, then you've got all three. To paraphrase Steve Miller: really love your pears, wanna shake your tree.<\/p>\n

Nothing like a good \"shellformer\" conversion to make a Transformer boring. You split the outer shell and that's about it. Yes, you have to pull the legs down as a second step, but it's still hardly complex.<\/p>\n

It can be difficult to figure out Peary Peculiar. It's almost like he has a pair of personalities. Sometimes he's an aspiring artist on a spiritual quest to paint the perfect fruit bowl, and other times he's a highly motivated business executive, determined to turn the Fresh Squeezes tribe into a highly profitable company. When the two personalities get to talking, that's when it really gets strange.<\/i><\/p>\n

What worked as an avocadobot doesn't necessarily work as a pearbot. Like, pears have a core, just like an apple does, but this mold has a distinct round tummy that was meant to be the avocado's pit. Peary attempts to disguise it by painting two small pear seeds on it, but it still stands out as not belonging. The colors are great - a very pale yellow like the meat of a pear, contrasted with brown on the shoulders and a darker green on the head - but overall the designers are asking a little more from this mold than it can provide.<\/p>\n
