Little known trivia fact: before the show Battlestar Galactica<\/i>, there was a version of it in the late '70s, designed 100% to cash in on Star Wars<\/i>. (Originally, it was a sci-fi version of Mormonism, but they couldn't find funding for that.) It's most famous today for being the reason Boba Fett couldn't fire his rocket<\/a>, but it has a certain retro appeal to the ultranerds, the kind of people who would be into Dune<\/i> or the metric system, so it also made it into Series 2 of Funko's Science Fiction Mystery Minis<\/i>.<\/p>\n

This is Boy-Starbuck, the gender-swapped counterpart of the real version<\/a>. Unfortunately, Series 2 was the time when human skintone was painted way too pale<\/a>, so his skin is even lighter than his khaki spacepants. On the other hand, that's how we can definitely tell this is Starbuck and not Apollo. He's wearing a Viper pilot uniform which, because this was the '70s, is a brown suede jacket with big gold buckles and a helmet that for some reason looks like an Egyptian pharaoh's headdress. He's armed with the show's laser pistol, and is posed like he's on guard or has just been surprised - it's like he's just raising the gun to fire.<\/p>\n

Starbuck was available in a 1:24 ratio, meaning he was in every other case. But he wasn't the only BSG<\/i> figure in the lineup...<\/p>\n

The 1978 Battlestar Galactica<\/i> may have been a sad little oddity languishing in the shadow of its 2000s reboot, but there's no denying its Cylons were at least iconic. Threatening as the new ones<\/a> were, they looked like Terminators with disco collars and football pads; the old ones may just have been poor stuntmen in costumes they couldn't see out of or move in, but the \"Swamp Thing\" mouth, Roman Centurion crest over the head, and that famous scrolling red eye definitely stand out among the echelons of sci-fi robots. It's present here, painted mid-swipe: a bright red dot with a fading trail behind it.<\/p>\n

The Cylon is in a fairly calm pose, because why would a robot be scared or in a hurry? He's just standing there holding his rifle with two hands. It has a cute little bayonet on the end! If you turn him around, you'll find some slight techno details on his backpack, which is to be expected, and a flowing silver skirt, which is not. Who is building angry murderbots and then fitting them with pretty little dresses?<\/p>\n

The Cylon is much more plentiful than Starbuck - 1:6, so two in every case - which makes sense for a faceless army-builder you might want a whole fleet of. There's also a rarer 1:72 Command Centurion, which is this same mold but painted golden instead of silver. They didn't even bother to change the position of his eye!<\/p>\n
