We're as excited for No Way Home<\/i> as anyone is, but let's face it: the toy selection is pretty uninspiring. There was a time when the fact that we're getting an interdimensional Sinister Six and a live-action Spiderverse was supposed to be kept under wraps, so Sony couldn't very well have Hasbro soliciting a series of Marvel Legends<\/i> with old villains and Spideys as early as they'd need to, so instead we get a melange of comic, game, and movie toys. Speed round!<\/p>\n

Spider-Man gears up in his Integrated Suit to bravely confront a new threat.<\/i><\/p>\n

See? They can't even put any pertinent info on the back of the box. \"To bravely confront a new threat.\" You don't want to maybe name<\/b> that threat? Or even give us a hint of what it is the suit is integrating? We can make guesses - technology from the other Spider-Mans' worlds, designed to help fight their native foes - but that's all.<\/p>\n

The design is basically the Iron Spider suit<\/a> with a couple minor design tweaks: the \"legs\" on the spider symbol are filled-in with gold rather than just outlined with it, and he has some sort of chunky bracelets on the back of his wrists. There are other changes, but those are the big ones. There's something about the wrist shooters, something indefinable, that sort of feels... \"Superior Spider-Man<\/a>\"-y? They wouldn't be planning to go that direction, would they? If they do, you heard it here first.<\/p>\n

This figure has no accessories, or even a piece of the Armadillo<\/a> Build-A-Figure. The only thing we get are alternate thwip hands. With no context and no extras, this is not an interesting action figure.<\/p>\n

Spider-Man relies on his Black and Gold suit and abilities to defend against threats.<\/i><\/p>\n

Okay, so what are<\/b> those abilities? What does the Black and Gold suit do<\/b>? We don't want to encourage more spoilers on toys<\/a> or anything, but naming this black and gold suit the Black and Gold suit and telling us that it's black and gold is verging on \"Revolver Ocelot\" territory.<\/p>\n

The design does look pretty cool, even if we don't know what the payoff is going to be. We got a first attempt at a black costume with Far From Home<\/i>'s Night Monkey<\/a>, but that was something any SHIELD spy would have been able to wear, while the gold-lined webbing on this one make it clear this is only Spider-Man and no one else. The red on his fingers and the inside of his forearms probably serves some purpose, even if that's only \"to break up all the dark with a little flash of color.\" The Hot Toys version of this suit initially had the red on the gloves like this one does, but an updated version two months later did away with that, so we'll go ahead and say this one is incorrect.<\/p>\n

Sam Sparro Spider-Man does not have accessories, just thwip hands. Again, Hot Toys' suggested some spoilery things he could have come with. He does get a part of the Armadillo<\/a> Build-A-Figure, however: the left leg.<\/p>\n

The fact that there's a BAF piece goes in the negative column: it seems almost inevitable that we're going to see this figure again in a two-pack or store exclusive with corrected forearms and the accessories that Hasbro or Sony has deemed too secretive to release yet. So now we're going to have to double-dip.<\/p>\n

When a fierce power struggle threatens to destroy his new home, Miles Morales realizes that with great power there must always come great responsibility.<\/i><\/p>\n

Hey look, PS4 Spider-Man<\/a> finally has a little friend! Other than the Velocity Suit<\/a>, of course. This is a \"Gamerverse\" figure, based on the Miles Morales<\/i> game<\/a>. And yet it's as tall as the fully adult Spider-Men are! Remember the first Miles figure<\/a>, that was short but swolen like Future Milhouse<\/a>? This is its conceptual opposite, tall and thin. It's his usual costume, but with the details sculpted because the videogame figures get to look better than the comicbook ones for some reason.<\/p>\n

Miles' normal hands are mid-thwip, and he gets alternates that are simply open as well as fists. He's also got a swappable head that shows him unmasked. Since Miles' in-game model is based quite heavily on his voice actor, Nadji Jeter, you can make out hints of his looks in the final sculpt. The skintone on the toy is darker than in the game - like they decided it based on nighttime scenes rather than daylight.<\/p>\n

Finally, Miles has another set of alternate hands, these cast in translucent yellow plastic with lightning trailing back off them to show his Venom Strike ability, basically a supercharged static electricity zap. The effects on the hands look really cool, and helped make the decision to get this figure easier. It's a nice bit of contrast.<\/p>\n

Of course, so did the inclusion of Build-A-Figure Armadillo's<\/a> right leg.<\/p>\n

Miles Morales is a fine figure, sure, but he doesn't bring any \"flash\" to this No Way Home<\/i> series. His inclusion just smacks of Hasbro looking around for things they could include without doing any of the movie's villains.<\/p>\n
