The Mad Max<\/i> prequel Furiosa<\/i> opens next week, and the early reviews are already saying it's better even than Fury Road<\/i> was. Get hype!<\/p>\n

\"Funko<\/p>\n

When George Miller was beginning writing the one Mad Max<\/i> movie anybody actually cares about, he came up with two potential names for it: Fury Road<\/i> and Furiosa<\/i>. Obviously \"Fury Road\" was chosen, but at that point \"Furiosa\" had nowhere to go. It would be years later that the name was finally applied to the character, who had until that point only been known by titles (such as \"Imperator\").<\/p>\n

This is the \"plain\" Furiosa, just standing there frowning and holding her gun. She's sculpted with short hair, a bit longer than the movie showed, and the top of her face is darkened by grease. Unfortunately, the paint is too light on the production figure - for whatever reason, Funko decided to make it look more like a painted shadow on her skin than the dark black it really was. It's the same way variant Nux<\/a> didn't look properly chromed, he looked like he needed a shave. This barely looks like Furiosa because they did her war paint wrong. The promo shots were way better.<\/p>\n

You can tell what bit of the movie this Mini is from thanks to her gun. She's holding her modified Type 56 SKS, which was used at several points, but only had a scope like this toy's twice: in the day-for-night scene, when she was aiming at the Bullet Farmer, but also prior to that when she first sniped the two Imperators who were still following the War Rig while Joe<\/a> mourned Splendid. Other than that detail, this is a perfectly standard figurine of her, wearing her regular outfit - dark pants, light top, several brown belts to hold on her mechanical arm - and though her eyebrows are sculpted, the little frown she's displaying is just a matter of paint.<\/p>\n

\"Funko<\/p>\n

The first Furiosa showed her when she was on her way away from Immortan Joe<\/a>; this one shows her when she's on her way back. The easiest way to tell is that she's cleaned off her Imperator grease\/paint (heh - \"greasepaint\"), leaving her face bare. That's great for differentiating the two figures, but it's not great for this<\/b> figure in particular. Mystery Minis<\/i>' simple, cartoony style makes her so androgynous the toy's barely recognizable as who she's meant to be. If not for the mechanical arm, you might not have any clue who or what this was.<\/p>\n

The other figurine had a rather staid pose, just standing there, angry but restrained. This one is more dynamic, with her little golden Webley & Scott Signal Pistol pointed out in front of her, and her metal arm held behind for balance. Her clothes are mostly the same, but this time she's got her dark scarf\/gaiter around her neck, and a pair of goggles up on her head. She's also been painted with a much angrier expression, her teeth gritted in pure anger.<\/p>\n

When the Mad Max Fury Road Mystery Minis<\/i> came out, the back of the boxes said everything was in a 1:12 ratio, which was utterly false. Doing the math, fans pieced together that both Furiosae were 1:6, meaning there were four of her in every box. And sure, she's a major character - the<\/b> major character - but couldn't one of them have been a little rarer than the other? Wouldn't three per case have been enough? So there's the question for you: imagining you're Funko, of the two Furiosa Mystery Minis<\/i>, which would have made the \"rare\" one?<\/p>\n
