Our figure today is Hasbro's Croil.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oafe.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/visionariescroil1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.oafe.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/visionariescroil1-300x235.jpg\" title=\"Cybro-Serpent (click to embiggen)\" width=\"300\" height=\"235\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Part of the planned second series of the <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oafe.net\/yo\/idwrev1.php#leo\">Visionaries<\/a><\/i> line, Croil (a combination of \"cruel\" and \"coil\") was cancelled along with all the rest of his fellows. It was late in the process, though, as evidenced by that Neal Adams turnaround for the figure then known only as the \"Cybro-Serpent.\" The art for his planned chest hologram was done:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.oafe.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/visionariescroil2.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"455\" title=\"Creepy weird snake-thing!\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p>And even reached the sculpt stage (by Bill Merklein):<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.oafe.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/visionariescroil4.jpg\" width=\"460\" height=\"420\" title=\"Creepy weird snake-thing 9but now in 3D)!\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p>And he even appeared in the 1988 Toy Fair catalog, which shows us his planned colors:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.oafe.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/visionariescroil3.jpg\" width=\"325\" height=\"315\" title=\"too tired to even stand for his official portrait\" class=\"aligncenter\"><\/p>\n<p>His shield, fittingly, has a snake motif. Production notes from the time identify the two images for his shield as \"baby snake\" and \"cobra,\" so maybe he would have had some kind of time-control powers? Aging and de-aging things as his means of fighting\/destroying?
