Great timing!

There was already a Batman set in Series 1, so getting him again in Series 2 is less than exciting. This isn't the same mold, obviously - he's standing straight up instead of squatting, his cape is longer, he's holding a batarang, etc. - but there may have been better choices. Who? Well, Nightwing was already in that first set, they already did a Batgirl... getting Wendy's to sign off on Red Hood or Azrael may have been a long shot, but it would have been worth trying. All Batman's costume "changes" have been about color, not design, and differences in color don't mean a thing when the toys are molded in a single solid color (one of four, just like last year, but not any of the same four).

Oh wait, the reason they couldn't do Red Hood? Because the second figure in this set is Jason Todd! Okay, it's just Robin, but the little cards included in this box specifically identify him as Jason. How about that! It's not like there was some huge visual difference between Dick and Jason when they were respectively Robins, so Wendy's didn't need to declare this was the second one, but there ya go. And make no mistake, this is the classic look: pixie boots, chainmail undies, all that. He, too, is holding a batarang, despite Matt Kaufenberg's art not showing him with one. He's also the same height as Batman, rather than being even slightly shorter. Unusual choice.

Following the trend of the first series, these boxes all include two heroes and one villain. The villain in this set both is and is not a surprise: Harley Quinn. She's a surprise, because there are so many other clasic villains they could have done; and she's not a surprise, because she's majorly popular, with her own movies and TV shows and everything else. This is her in her original Bruce Timm costume, not the later New 52 look - we know Wendy's prefers older looks for the characters (that's why we got Gold/Silver Age Robin and not Tim Drake's suit), but it helps that this one would show less skin. Her toy matches the art, with one hand on her cocked hip, and her giant mallet slung across her shoulders. She's not the first of these figures to have an open gap in the sculpt, but it's surprising to see it with something as thin as the handle of this hammer.

The Wendy's DC keshi toys came in four colors: red, blue, green, and gold. Three of those were available last time, but they're different shades, so a red Batman from 2025 won't be the same red as a red Batman from 2023. And this time we're telling you about them while they're still available, so run out to Wendy's now to get them before they're gone.

And now, some more OAFEry:

The real Bruce Wayne

The Golden Age Bookworm

Rustin's Spoils of the Week #188

Wendy's DC Heroes 2025 Set 2 exclusive review

Flippin' through Previews - August '14

Oh wow, look what's back!
