Usually everybody forgets that Cloak and Dagger are mutants - in fact, that's probably why they both came through M-Day unscathed. Cloak has a solid black body, which is how he was typically portrayed in the comics, but his face gets a lot of shadowy detail: his skin is dark brown, and it's covered in thin black cracks and heavy shadows. Only his blank white eyes stand out. The hood and cape are separate pieces, so you don't lose any articulation, and they're unique sculpts as well. Cloak's cloak is (almost) always drawn with large black stripes running its length, and while those aren't painted on for this figure, they are sculpted. Oh, and look: there are paint apps in the grooves, completing the look! Even better!

Enhanced by the same experimental drug that created Cloak, Tandy Bowen became Dagger and discovered she could construct fantastic blades of light, generate purifying energy and safely travel through Cloak's dimensional rift.

Wow, could there be a name more quintessentially '80s than "Tandy Bowen?" If a woman says that name out loud, her hair instantly feathers itself and she's teleported to the hood of Whitesnake's car. This is clearly an old Minimate, judging just by the way it's designed: the paint is very simple and blocky, and she uses this existing hair. If she were released today, she'd have more anatomy on the white portions of her costume, and more details in the face than just the big white circle around her eye. Don't believe us? Compare this figure to her doppelganger, Moonstone. It never occurred to me until I opened this set that the cutout running down the center of her costume is in the shape of a dagger. Nor did it occur to me how much personal grooming she'd have to do. This figure really needs some accessories, though: her light daggers, or even just a generic energy blast.

Like we said up above, Cloak and Dagger are mutants - but like Red Guardian, nobody remembers them when it's time to have an X-Men crossover. The original story was that they got their powers due to a reaction to the drugs they were given, but eventually it was revealed that all the drugs did was unlock their latent abilities. Well, that, and allow D'Spayre, the evil version of the Golden Age Vision (don't worry, it's a long, stupid story and doesn't matter), to switch their powers. See, originally Tandy was fated to be Cloak, and Tyrone was meant to be Dagger. By switching their powers, D'Spayre made sure they were weaker, which would... do... something? I don't know. Again: comics, long story, not important. The point is, they're mutants, but they're low-profile enough to avoid things that specifically target mutants. Unfortunately, they're also low-profile enough that neither ToyBiz nor Hasbro have made (modern) figures of them, so if you're a fan it's these Minimates or the Marvel Select set.

<i>And now, some more OAFEry:</i>

Hasbro's SDCC exclusives (part 2)

Minimate Mini-Review #106 - Uncanny X-Force

Transformers Collaborative X-Jet addendum

Rustin's Spoils of the Week #34

Rustin's Spoils of the Week #55

#49 - Cloak and Dagger <i>And now, some more OAFEry:</i>How to best display your extra Marvel Legends heads Minimate Mini-Review #68 - X-Factor Angel & Warpath The original Morph Gamerverse Juggernaut addendum Marvel Legends Wolverine, Jean Grey & Cyclops addendum

[39,25,137
53,74
post-8399","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-art-asylum","category-marvel","category-mmmr","tag-minimates","tag-x-men
["GET
