The Rumble:

The Rumblers

Two warriors poised for competition - a wizard hailing from the Mountain of the Whispering Winds and a snowbeast who calls the North Pole home. Each a solitary creature with a reputation forged from the fires in which legends are born. Both laying claim to a title only one can rightly call his own...

Rumble '98 decided which of these two Bad Boys of Stop Motion would be crowned the "King of the Claymation Jungle." On behalf of the Warlock and Bumble, I would like to thank everyone who took the time to cast a vote. The outcome of this contest was truly decided by the people.

Analysis of the Competitors:

Like every big prize fight, this one had its share of banter from supporters on both sides. Along with their votes, many people sent messages supporting their pick. Below are fragments of actual messages sent while the Rumble was in progress:

I will cast the vote for the Bumble a million times over because he is the epitome of coolness. No pun intended. --Allyson

I once had the misfortune to see the Bumble in action. Without his teeth he's a big sissy. I'll bet on Winter Warlock. -- JBern

Are you kidding me?! The Winter Warlock could slap Bumble around and call him "Sally"! --Erica

If limited to a choice between the Bumble and the Winter Warlock, I would have to say the Bumble... due, of course, to the fact that Bumbles bounce. It is clear that the Warlock has a weakness for toys. ..his Achilles heel, one might say. Thus I think it would be very easy for the Bumble to win easily in a fight. After all, all he would need is some sort of plaything to distract the Warlock from his task, and melt him down to the sniveling little weakling that we all know he really is. --Robin

Boing,boing,boing!!! --Lanza

It would be a messy victory, but a victory none the less. Rock on Bumble! --J.D.

When all is said and done, the Winter Warlock is an empty shell (especially after the choo-choo incident) while the Bumble clearly is the complete package in '60s gladiatorial claymation combat. --Dave

I mean, come on! The Bumble can't even fend off an elf w/ a pair of pliers? And what's up w/ all the *live* reindeer in his cave? If he'd just eaten the buggers he could have saved himself a heap o' trouble! --Anthony

Heat Miser would take them both out. --Paul

When I was a kid, the Winter Warlock scenes scared the diapers off of me. The Bumble always vaguely reminded me of a fuzzy slipper. No contest. --James

Definitely Winter Warlock. Although I love the Bumble, Winter Warlock has Sharp Teeth AND Magic, giving him the edge he needs to overcome the inept fighting style of the Bumble (which generally consists of growling, waving his arms, getting hit on the head with rocks and his tendency to go to a commercial break when threatened.) --Brian

We believe that the Bumble would win the contest, although he has a much more amiable personality. His flight or fight response would kick in making him a force to be reckoned with. The Winter Warlock would rue the day he came up against this incredible fighting machine. A great warrior once said "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee." With a name like Bumble, we're sure he'd have a mighty sting. --TJ

Just give Bumble some dental floss, helmet and life preserver and he'd rule! --Jason

The Bumble would walk all over the Winter Warlock. Jeez, if Rudolph can't kill him no one can. --Joe

Well, I'm going for the Bumble, but my sister wouldn't put any money on either of them... --Mark
