Flippin' Through Previews - January '08

It's time once again to thumb through the toy section of this month's Previews, and see what goodies we can uncover. Scheduled to start shipping in March.

As if Kotobukiya's expensive Star Wars statues weren't already enough of a temptation, page 58 reveals they're starting a series of Bounty Hunter statues that will have interlocking bases and - get this - a BAF part! Man!

You know those "Spider-Man & Friends" knock-offs based on DC characters? It seems they're getting their own comicbook. Super Friends no.1 is listed on page 98.

DC Direct shows off two new 13" figures on page 132: Harley Quinn and the Joker.

Page 136 shows us Alex Ross' Justice Series 8, which features Captain Cold, Batgirl, Supergirl and Toyman. Nice selection!

If you didn't already buy all the Elseworlds: Red Son action figures, there's a box set listed on page 137 that also has a new, exclusive Bizarro.

McFarlane Toys' Halo Series 1 figures are shown on page 171. We're really excited to see articulated toys from this once-great company! And there are 4" vehicles on page 172.

If you like SportsPicks, you'll find NBA Series 14 on page 174.

Remember back in May when we told you about GI Joe #25, with a wraparound cover featuring every Joe from the past 25 years? Well on page 227 you'll find the listing for GIJoe #33, which does the same thing for Cobra. Awesome!

Bleach fans (the anime, not the thing in the bottle) can find Renji and Byakuya on page, right next to the Kung Fu Panda figures. Really? Yes, they're from a cartoon, but Jack Black isn't exactly box office gold, right now.

Also on page 426, the upcoming GI Joe Comic 2-Packs are listed: the picture shows Ace and Wild Weasel (what good are they without their planes?), but you'll also be able to get Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow (of course), a Crimson Guard and a Cobra Officer, and the twins Tomax and Xamot.

There are no new Marvel Select toys in this issue, but Page 428 re-lists the Marvel Zombies and "Best of" Assortment 2 for those who missed them.

Mezco's Cinema of Fear Series 2 is on page 430, and yet again gives figure fans the chance to get Jason, Freddy and Leatherface. And also Nancy Thompson in her bathtub. Of course, that's the figures - the dioramas are on page 432 and feature... Jason, Freddy and Leatherface. They're also offering a stylized 9" Jason, with a removable mask.

Considering how much of Mezco's longevity in the industry can be attributed to the success of the Living Dead Dolls, it's nice to see a new series on page 462.

We go right into NECA's product with the Cult Classics Hall of Fame Captain Spaulding, who's seen here in his clown suit. CC HoF The Crow is on page 433, and has a big flame bird base.

Don't be confused by the Trick 'R Treat "Sam" figure on page 433 - yes, it's only a 5" figure, but since he's a kid, it's still in the 7" scale.

Two kinds of Indiana Jones goodness are on page 434: the 3 3/4" figures, and the 2" Adventure Heroes. Some of these look really good... others not so much.

If you missed the Hasbro Legends 2 variants, they're available on page 434 as well. Hasbro admitted they screwed up with these and were looking for a way to get them out to fans again, and here it is. Dark Phoenix, gold Yellowjacket and green Quicksilver can finally be yours!

There are more Marvel Legends Unleashed 360 on page 436 - Black Spider-Man and Dr. Octopus. There are also two Superhero Squad theme packs, four-packs of the X-Men (Magneto, White Queen, Colossus, Wolverine) or Marvel Heroes (Spider-Man, Punisher, Ghost Rider, Elektra in white). But why do the X-Men get a new White Queen when the other guys get nothing?

NECA's AVP Series 3 is on the same page - again, it's two Predators, but at least one of them is stealth, this time.

Minimate fans will love page 438 - there's a Back to the Future 3 set, a Marty McFly and Future BIff two-pack, and two Classic Battlestar Galactica five-packs.

There's too much Iron Man movie merchandise to list, but it's all on page 441.

Page 442 features both DST's Wrath of Khan Series 2 and NECA's Dread Pirate Roberts. Princess Bride for the win!

Page 449's listing for Transformers movie deluxe figures reveals an otherwise unknown bit of info: the Concept Bumblebee is being repainted in black with yellow stripes, and he'll finally have the "armored" head. Looks very cool.

The Wachowski Brothers' Speed Racer movie looks very cool, but the toys on page 450 look like complete crap. What the hell? Way to go, Hot Wheels.

There are a bunch of Star Wars figures on page 452, but two assortments stand out: The Force Unleashed and the new Evolutions three-packs Nice stuff!

Finally, on page 453, there's a clay rough of NECA's Devil May Cry: Dante figure.

PS: if you wanted this summer's Dawn & Death Be@rbrick exclusive set, it's listed on page 462. With no price.
