#164 - Guile vs. Raven<\/h3>\n

<\/center><\/p>\n

I know bugger all about Tekken<\/i> other than the fact that the die-hard arcade kids were all super<\/b> excited when a new one came out. But that wasn't going to stop me from getting the Street Fighter X Tekken<\/i> (pronounced \"Street Fighter Cross Tekken\") Minimates.<\/p>\n

A military man who specializes in hand-to-hand combat, Guile understands that war requires callousness. While he isn't one to talk much, he has a strong sense of justice.<\/i><\/p>\n

Guile was planned for release in 2006<\/a>, but that obviously never happened. This Minimate has Guile's trademark idiotic flat top, big and level enough that he balances on his head better than he does on his feet. He has his dog tags painted on his chest, his American flag bicep tattoos, and really intricate green camouflage paint apps on his pants. Sadly, there's no Sonic Boom effect for him; what is he, just supposed to fight like a human? That's not what the Street Fighter tournament is about!<\/p>\n

The agent known as Raven was dispatched by an unknown corporation. Using an unknown derivation of classic ninjitsu, he tracks his targets from the darkness and can always be relied on to carry out his duty.<\/i><\/p>\n

Raven answers the question \"what if Blade<\/i> Wesley Snipes had a baby with Demolition Man<\/i> Wesley Snipes?\" He's a black ninja with crazy blonde hair and dark glasses - and those aren't just random lines on his face, he has a large X-shaped scar right between his eyes. The armor on his shins is just painted on, while the gloves are molded. He has a new piece around his neck with a scarf trailing off it, and a belt with spots in the back where he can store his two removable daggers (although Tekken<\/i>, unlike Street Fighter<\/i>, doesn't have any ranged attacks).<\/div>\n

#165 - Zangief vs. Marduk<\/h3>\n

<\/center><\/p>\n

Zangief's love for his home country outstrips anyone else's, and he fights day in and day out to show the world the strength of the motherland. In Russia, he is nicknamed the Red Cyclone.<\/i><\/p>\n

That's funny, \"the red cyclone\" is what I call that thing that happens between your stomach and your toilet after eating Papa John's pizza. Zangief was planned to be in Series 2 of the Street Fighter<\/i> Minimates<\/a>, but that was cancelled despite every figure in it being awesome. The passage of time has been kind to him though: he has a \"powerhouse\" chest cap to make him big and muscular. His chest hair is merely painted on, but his boots and wristbands are 3D. So's his belt. The face on the unreleased version is cooler than this one, and his mohawk (a new piece) seems too small.<\/p>\n

An overwhelmingly powerful fighter that uses Vale Tudo (\"anything goes\"), Marduk was at odds with King over the death of Armor King, but the two found friendship in the midst of conflict.<\/i><\/p>\n

Behold: Marduk, slayer of Tiamat<\/a>! Sorry, not knowing anything about Tekken<\/i>, that name only makes me think of the \"Stimutacs\" episode<\/a> of Sealab<\/i>. Vale Tudo is a Brazillian combat sport that was a more violent progenitor to UFC. He has the same chest cap as Zangief, and an even hairier paint app. In fact, all his apps are impressive: his tattoos, his feather pendant necklace, the painful-looking zipper on his crotch, the patches with his name on his thighs, and his first name on his kneepads. His MMA gloves don't have the patches on the back to match the one on his right thigh, but they're new molds.<\/p>\n

These figures were clearly only put together in this TRU-exclusive set becaue they were both \"the 'big' guy\" in their respective games, but that may be enough.<\/div>\n

#166 - Sagat vs. King<\/h3>\n

<\/center><\/p>\n

The King of Muay Thai cares not for victory or defeat; he merely wishes to clash against fighters of great strength. His chest bears the scar left by Ryu's<\/a> Shoryuken, and serves as a reminder of their fight.<\/i><\/p>\n

It's kind of crazy that we only got a Sagat Minimate thanks to this Street Fighter x Tekken<\/i> line. Was he not in Marvel vs. Capcom<\/i>? Weird. And he's a TRU exclusive, to boot! He looks really nice here, with his eyepatch, his scowl, and the giant ugly scar on his chest. The wraps on his hands and feet are detailed well, too, but only on the front\/outsides. Since Sagat's always shown as being ridiculously tall next to the other Street Fighters, it's a shame that this Minimate didn't get some kind of height boosting pieces, like Giant Man<\/a>. Maybe they would have been too hard to hide on a man wearing nothing other than a pair of trunks?<\/p>\n

A pro wrestler who wears a jaguar mask to the ring, King swore revenge against his mentor Armor King's foe, Marduk, but they eventually reconciled. He is a silent and serious fighter.<\/i><\/p>\n

Wait, the dude in Tekken<\/i> with a cheetah head does not really have a cheetah head? It's just an amazingly lifelike mask<\/a>? I feel cheated! Next you'll tell me the boxing kangaroo isn't really a kangaroo. Side note: ART ASYLUM, WHY DID YOU NOT MAKE THE KANGAROO!? Gah! King has a \"powerhouse\" chest cap, a waist cap with a tail hanging off the back, and new boots, elbow pads and gloves. His head looks like a jaguar mask, of course, and you can remove it to reveal the man beneath! Just kidding: the head under there is blank.<\/div>\n

#167 - Ken vs. Steve<\/h3>\n

Everybody hold onto your butts: here come the boring white boys!<\/p>\n

Ken Masters trained with Ryu<\/a> under the tutelage of Gouken<\/a>, and has since become eternal rivals with his good friend. He is heir to the Masters Corporation, and one of a short list of fighters who have mastered the hadoken.<\/i><\/p>\n

This first series of Street Fighter x Tekken<\/i> Minimates really went out of its way to release a lot of the figures that had been planned for the cancelled Street Fighter<\/i> Minimates Series 2<\/a> (he would have been repainted to make everybody's favorite loser, Dan<\/a>). His shaggy blonde hair is new, while his shirt and gloves are reused pieces. The skintone painted on his fingers really<\/b> doesn't match the rest of his body, to the point where it almost looks like he's got white mittens on inside his fingerless gloves.<\/p>\n

A cool, handsome boxer who is currently the reigning middleweight champion of the world, Steve is a serious and strong-hearted character who hates when others meddle in his matches.<\/i><\/p>\n

Ah yes, thrill to the unending excitement of a set offering the exotic, world-shattering duo of \"Ken\" and \"Steve.\" Stevearino is wearing his ring attire here, lace-up boots and a pair of blue, white and red shorts. His boxing gloves are new molds - we've had Minimate boxing gloves before, but they didn't look like this. His golden mullet (not to be confused with these Golden Mullets<\/a>) is a bit loose on the head. In fact, Ken's hair was loose, too. Both guys in this set have hair that turns out of place way too easily.<\/p>\n

The first series of Street Fighter x Tekken<\/i> Minimates have two sets that were only available at Toys \"Я\" Us, two sets that were only available in the specialty market, and two sets that were available both locations. It's kind of fitting that the two dudes with the most boring names imaginable are in that ubiquitous third group.<\/div>\n

#168 - Poison vs. Lili<\/h3>\n

<\/center><\/p>\n

Poison is a former member of the Mad Gear crime syndicate, and she is constantly at odds with her partner Hugo, although the two seem to get along just fine regardless.<\/i><\/p>\n

Poison is not a Street Fighter<\/i> character. She (like Mike Haggar<\/a> and Sodom<\/a>) originally appeared in Final Fight<\/i>, then later made the jump over. When the question was raised about whether it was appropriate to have men beating up a woman, the decision was made to declare Poison a transsexual, which really doesn't seem that much better. She's got long pink hair spilling out from beneath her black leather cap, and her clothes consist of a torn tank top, cutoffs, and red high heels - you know, sensible street fighting gear. There's a chain around her hat, and another wrapped around her waist (with a pair of handcuffs molded hanging off the side).<\/p>\n

The daughter of a world famous oil czar, Lili has a haughty arrogant attitude. She also has a penchant for fighting, and thus engages in street fights whenever she finds the time.<\/i><\/p>\n

Lili reuses Magik's<\/a> hair, but the rest of her pieces are new: that means her frilly skirt, her red neck accoutrement (which is also molded with the raised collar of her jacket), and the lacy white gloves she wears. Her legs may look like she's wearing knee socks, but those are actually boots with a red stripe at the top. In the game, she has a very graceful, gymnastic fighting style, but her idle animation makes her look like she's dry-humping the air. You'd think it would be difficult to keep a white outfit looking this pristine in the middle of a fight, but maybe she's just that good.<\/div>\n

#169 - Cammy vs. Nina<\/h3>\n

A young woman who belongs to the Delta Red team in the Secret Intelligence Services' Special Forces Unit. Cammy was formerly one of M. Bison's<\/a> brainwashed soldiers, but has since reverted to her former self.<\/i><\/p>\n

Cammy is known for two things: her braids and her buns. This Minimate gets the former right, but doesn't even attempt the latter - the block figure format precludes it. Her beret is molded as part of her hair, and she gets new gloves that are all hers! They even put rings around the top of her boots to give them more bulk. None of her anatomy is terribly unrealistic, though the skintone paint on her torso block doesn't quite match the color of her arms and head. The camo apps on her legs are excellent, though.<\/p>\n

Nina is a professional assassin, who works without choosing her clientele. She is a cool-headed and callous individual who does not let anyone get in the way of her job.<\/i><\/p>\n

Nina was one of the original Tekken<\/i> girls, and has been in every game since. This particular costume (which makes her look like she's wearing an old-fashioned menstrual belt<\/a>) debuted in Tekken Tag Tournament 2<\/i>. It keeps her trademark purple colorscheme, but adds some camo print on her chest and legs. The ponytail hair piece is new, and she has a knife strapped to her right leg (though it's so small it keeps falling out of the sheath).<\/p>\n

Neither Nina nor Cammy were done any favors by the block figure format - they need their curves, consarn it! Of course, being a two-pack of girls, they were only available in specialty market assortments, not at Toys \"Я\" Us.<\/div>\n
