{"id":4743,"date":"2007-01-17T12:33:49","date_gmt":"2007-01-17T17:33:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oafe.net\/blog\/?p=4743"},"modified":"2026-05-05T19:13:56","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T23:13:56","slug":"the-supervillain-shuffle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oafe.net\/blog\/2007\/01\/the-supervillain-shuffle\/","title":{"rendered":"The Supervillain Shuffle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For all its massive, \"world-changing\" events, the DC Universe is a remarkably stable place. <a href=\"\/poe\/dcsh2sup.php\">Superman<\/a> has always fought <a href=\"\/yo\/dcdcoie2ll.php\">Lex Luthor<\/a>, <a href=\"\/yo\/batbegceb.php\">Batman<\/a> has always fought <a href=\"\/yo\/dcdh1j.php\">the Joker<\/a>, and <a href=\"\/yo\/jlww.php\">Wonder Woman<\/a> has always fought <a href=\"\/yo\/dcdjlr1chee.php\">Cheetah<\/a>. Sure, they mix it up sometimes, but they always end up back where they started. Over at Marvel, however, things are more fluid. Often a hero's \"signature\" villain started out fighting someone else. Let's take a look at some examples:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Fantastic Four got <a href=\"\/yo\/smsand.php\">Sandman<\/a> and <a href=\"\/yo\/smhydro.php\">Hydro-Man<\/a> from Spider-Man<\/li>\n<li>In exchange, Spider-Man got <a href=\"\/yo\/sm1c_beet.php\">Beetle<\/a> from the Human Torch. He also got <a href=\"\/yo\/smhml3_sd.php\">Speed Demon<\/a> from the Avengers, <a href=\"\/yo\/smsfsw.php\">Swarm<\/a> from the Champions, and <a href=\"\/monkey\/smvenom2.php\">Venom<\/a> from Iron Fist (it's a stretch, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.byrnerobotics.com\/FAQ\/listing_search.asp#96\" target=\"_blank\">sort of<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Iron Fist gave <a href=\"\/yo\/mlfo2_ws.php\">Sabretooth<\/a> to Wolverine<\/li>\n<li>Wolverine got <a href=\"\/yo\/ml13_ld.php\">Lady Deathstrike<\/a> <b>and<\/b> the <a href=\"\/yo\/xmtw_ss.php\">Silver Samurai<\/a> from Daredevil<\/li>\n<li>Daredevil got <a href=\"\/yo\/mlfo1_dk.php\">the Kingpin<\/a> from Spider-Man<\/li>\n<li>Spider-Man got <a href=\"\/yo\/smhml11_jack.php\">Jack O'Lantern<\/a> from <a href=\"\/blog\/?p=18442\">Machine Man<\/a><\/li>\n<li>When that <b>Jack O'Lantern<\/b> became <a href=\"\/yo\/smhob.php\">Hobgoblin<\/a>, a new Jack O'Lantern started fighting Captain America.<\/li>\n<li>When THAT <b>Jack O'Lantern<\/b> was killed by the Punisher, he was resurrected and became a foe for Ghost Rider.<\/li>\n<li>Ghost Rider got <a href=\"\/yo\/ml13_bh.php\">Blackheart<\/a> from Daredevil<\/li>\n<li>Daredevil got <a href=\"\/yo\/av3c_cob.php\">Cobra<\/a> from Thor, then later gave him to Captain America<\/li>\n<li>Hulk got the <a href=\"\/yo\/smhml3_am.php\">Absorbing Man<\/a> from Thor<\/li>\n<li>She-Hulk got <a href=\"\/yo\/mlsw401_tit.php\">Titania<\/a> from... well, no one, really. She was invented for <i>Secret Wars<\/i> and got adopted<\/li>\n<li>X-Factor (almost) got <a href=\"\/yo\/smhml13_owl.php\">the Owl<\/a> from Daredevil - the character was changed at the last minute to <a href=\"\/yo\/ml7_apoc.php\">Apocalypse<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The X-Men got <a href=\"\/yo\/ml10_myst.php\">Mystique<\/a> and <a href=\"\/yo\/xml_gladb.php\">Deathbird<\/a> from Ms. Marvel, and only inherited <a href=\"\/yo\/ml14_mojo.php\">Mojo<\/a> after Longshot joined the team<\/li>\n<li>Captain Marvel (and the rest of the universe) got <a href=\"\/yo\/ms_thanos.php\">Thanos<\/a> from Iron Man<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wow, that's a lot of shuffling around. When a new character is introduced, you never know where he'll eventually end up.
