"High Pressure Negotiation"
7/21/10

Welcome to Week 3 of "Pun Month" - four weeks of nothing but cheesy, groan-worthy jokes.

The idea behind this one should be obvious: it's written right across the center of the image. You've got Sydney Bristow from Alias, you've got newspaper editor J. Jonah Jameson from Spider-Man, you've got "Alias vs. Editor."

As the font on "Editor" should lead you to figure out, it's a play on Aliens vs. Predator. We would have used the Aliens font for "Alias," but it really only works on a black background, and other than the glowing I, it's entirely non-descript, forgettable lettering. Alias's font is much more memorable and therefore identifiable.

The figures are two different scales: Syd is the 7" that movie and tv toys tend to be, while JJJ is the standard superhero 6". We tried just faking the size in the camera, but Photoshop worked better. There is a 6" Alias figure, but it's not a very iconic look.

Sydney's rocker girl outfit looks like something a partygoer would wear, and if she wore it for work, she needs an excuse, right? Thus, she's the Clubs reporter (and remember, a "beat" refers to the subject a reporter covers). And as always, JJ is obsessed with Spider-Man.

Vision-Impaired Transcript

J. Jonah Jameson: Listen, young lady, I don't even remember hiring someone to cover "the 'club' beat," whatever that is.
J. Jonah Jameson: Plus, bringing a gun into my office is no way to get a raise.
Caption: Alias vs. Editor
J. Jonah Jameson: Now go get me some pictures of Spider-Man!
