She looks pretty good for someone who got exploded.
Heroes fight to save New York from multiple threats, otherworldly and terrestrial. What sacrifices must be made to heal the world?
That's awfully vague, isn't it? Looks like the Marvel team pulled a "Star Wars" and just copied generic text for everyone, because all the figures in this series say the same, just with their name at the start. Except poor Felicia Hardy, who only gets the word "heroes." And that's a shame, because she's an incredibly fun part of Marvel's Sony's Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man 2 by Insomniac Games for the Sony Playstation 5. She only appeared (as more than a voice) in the DLC of the first game (remember when Sony was intent on making a Black Cat/Silver Sable crossover movie?), but she was consistently shown as being fiercely clever, able to outsmart Spider-Man at every turn... which may be why he sent Miles to deal with her in the sequel.
As seen on the regular Spidey suit, the videogame style doesn't just copy the comic costumes, but tries to give them "real" functionality. So instead of plain black latex, her outfit was slightly more tactical.
Oh, don't worry, it still looks like fetish gear, but with seams suggesting a thicker, mor protective material. The costume did get redesigned for Spider-Man 2: originally, she had no white fur on her gloves and boots, but rather protective armor pads that would make jumping around between rooftops a little bit safer; but I guess they decided that wasn't "on-brand" enough, because now she's got the fur. The claws were there before, but it still seems like she'd have an easier time breaking and entering in flats instead of chunky heels.
Another new feature is the odd harness of white lines running over the body. Those don't really make any sense, and honestly don't make the suit look too great. This is an entirely new sculpt, like many of the figures in this line, but we do find ourselves wishing they'd made a Black Cat from the first game instead of the second. Like, these lines do have an antecedent in the first game's concept art, but they were more "grey" than "white" back then, and so didn't stick out as much, but still managed to break up the silhouette decently.
Black Cat was portrayed in the game by three people: Erica Lindbeck did the voice and as much of the mocap as possible, stuntwoman Amy Johnson did the more extreme actions, and her face was modelled on Jayme Lynn Evans. Even behind those separate (but non-removable) goggles you can tell the sculpt gets that last one right. She's got a hint of a smile, because even in the middle of a battle with gun-toting weirdos, Felica's still having fun.
Articulation is good, though don't be surprised that she doesn't have any shin joints - at least this time they can pretend
to blame that on the fur instead of just cutting it out to be cheapskates. She otherwise has the usual sorts of articulation, and since this is an entirely new mold, they have taken the opportunity to do their new, improved torso articulation: a hinge for the waist and a balljoint for the chest. That really is a good combo. In the actual game, Black Cat's ponytail was so long the physics engine often had trouble understanding how to properly move it, so in many scenes it had to be hand-animated. So it's nice that this figure has a swivel there so we can move the ponytail around for more dynamic poses.
The toy has a pair of clawing hands,
a left fist, and a right hand designed to hold her only accessory: in the game, you meet (and chase) her after she's just stolen her most ambitious target yet, the Wand of Watoomb. Girl, stealing millions and millions of dollars from the Maggia is one thing, stealing from Doctor Strange is entirely another! This is not the existing sculpt, and it's molded from translucent yellow plastic with dark silver paint on top, to make it look like it's glowing with magical energy. It's really quite nice!
The Black Cat from the Spider-Man 1 DLC would have been a more appealing design to get as a toy, but 2 is what this line promises and so 2 is what it delivers - it's not Hasbro's fault Insomniac wanted to give her those weird white stripes everywhere. When I first saw this series at Target, they had everybody except Felica, suggesting she was the fast seller... and then the next week, everyone else had sold through and they now only had her. Odd. It's good to at least get someone in this line that's not just an alternate Spider-Man costume, though.
