Look, Malibu Stacy a new hat!
Princess Leia Organa was one of the greatest leaders
of the Rebel alliance, fearless on the battlefield and dedicated to ending the Empire's tyranny.
Okay, that's very nice and all, but you don't want to tell us anything about this Leia? She's part of the same comicbook line that brought us figures like Jaxxon and Mara Jade, so the comic she's from had to be about something, right? It was one of the first Marvel published after being bought by Disney, and while you can read its description by following that link, we can give you a short version: the comic picks up exactly where the first movie ends, at the medal ceremony, then immediately kicks into the evacuation of Yavin IV - just because the Death Star blew up, it doesn't mean the Empire suddenly doesn't know where they are anymore. But now, with a 10 million credit bounty on her head, Leia is trying to retrieve any surviving Alderaanians before the Empire can, and trying to figure out what it means to be a Princess with no planet.
Hasbro certainly didn't break the budget when it comes to sculpting. Most of this toy is the same as Hoth Leia, marking the third time the body's been used. She's got the boots, this time, but adds new forearms so she can wear gloves. Since this figure is based on the cover of issue #5, she's wearing a beige cloak that is (quite fittingly) reused from Padme, and then to complete the matrilineal trifecta, her belt is a retooled version of the one that came with Jaina Solo. Way to bridge the generations, Leia!
The head is new, and while the face has
a really great sculpt that looks a ton like Carrie Fisher, the hair is not a style she wore in the comic. It's as comlplex as most of her hairstyles, with some braids and hair-loopies and a large bun in the center, but since she's kind of on the run for the whole series, none of it as pristine as we normally see her with. This is "quick, loose, wrap it up and stick a pen in it" hair, not "sit still and let your beauty droid carefully arrange this" hair. It'd just be nice if it were anywhere in the art.
Technically the cape would count as an accessory,
since it's removable, but what she actually comes with are two blasters: her standard little pistol, which can fit in the holster on her belt, and a blaster rifle she stole from a Stormtrooper. Yes, again. The girl's unstoppable! She can hold either of them in either hand though only the right has the trigger finger extended. Considering how much they're saving with reused bodyparts, it would have been fun if they'd given her one of the big new guns she buys for the Rebellion.
No new articulation has been added to the figure, because why would it be? She has a balljointed head and neck, swivel/hinge shoulders, swivel/hinge elbows, swivel/hinge wrists, a balljointed waist, balljointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinge knees, swivel shins, and swivel/hinge ankles. She really was very active in the comic, be it brawling with human traffickers, jumping off walkways and onto technicians in a pit below, or soloing a group of Imperial captors. No wonder she was so ready to choke Jabba to death two movies from now!
Princess Leia was a really good comic, with excellent art, and it's exciting The Black Series made a toy of her. It would be more exciting if she were easier to find (seriously: this came out in 2022, but no one ever seemed to carry it), but even with plenty of Leias already, this is a nice alternate version.
