"The tin-foil-hat-level theory about jacking up the price in response to demand seems plausible (although surely Hasbro could have figured out the demand before the teases too?). Also maybe plausible that they increased the price due to, say, the increased cost of oil or something. (But then why not a price increase across the board? Or maybe that will come (again) in the near future.)"

She-Hulk

Fantastic Four Retro Collection
by yo go re

Sometimes it just takes a random bit of luck to make a character matter.

When the Thing chooses to take a leave of absence from the team, the sensational She-Hulk puts her prodigious strength to the test as a member of the Fantastic Four.

She-Hulk was a member of the Avengers when the Secret Wars broke out, and so was teleported to Battleworld along with the rest of the team. While there, Ben Grimm found he had the ability to change between his human and rock forms, and so chose to stay behind when the heroes went home; since the Avengers had added plenty of power to their roster recently, She-Hulk felt okay stepping down to reserve status so she could take Ben's place as the FF's team muscle.

It is not remotely surprising that this figure would mostly be the same as the Iron Man Retro Collection release - it would be weirder, in fact, it she weren't. So she's big and muscular and as sexy as a 7' tall green lady can be. The packaging for the Fantastic Four Retro Collection figures isn't the same as the Iron Man ones, because these have a circular blister instead of a square, but the size is generally the same and so Shulkie still has to be posed weird to fit her 7⅜"-plus frame inside it. This one's obviously for you muscle mommy fans out there.

The head is the same sculpt as well, with the sweetly smiling face and the thick, curly hair. Ah, but this version also includes an alternate head! It's got a mildly bemused smirk on the lips, and the hair is pulled back into a ponytaill (with the ponytail unattached in the packaging and resting in its own little separate tray for some reason).

The Fantastic Four costumes at the time Jen joined the team were the "if you wanted them to be black, John, you should have drawn them black" costumes, so she's wearing her usual bathing suit thing, just in blue and white instead of purple and white. And there's a big 4 in a circle on her chest. Well, between her chest. Some parts of that logo are much closer to the viewer than others. Must have been one tough tampograph to get right! It's been four years since the FF Retro figures came out, so it's only mildly unexpected that the blue of her suit is slightly different from the blue used on those figures; did Hasbro not write the specific color values down anywhere? At least her skin is close enough to the old She-Hulk that you can lend the ponytailed head over to her.

She-Hulk has a barbell head, swivel/hinge shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel/hinge wrists, a balljointed chest, balljoint hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel shins, and swivel/hinge ankles. It was a surprise, when it was released, that this mold got shin joints - Hasbro loves chintzing out on things (did you see at Toy Fair that they're apparently going to start making feet hollow? If they go ahead with that, it'll now be morally right to steal Hasbro figures the same way it's morally right to pirate Nintendo games), but removing them now would have cost even more money. The ponytail has a swivel where it plugs into the head, and the alternate head means you can do a lot more with the head than you could before.

This release does a lot better in the extras department than the last one did. In addition to the alternate head, she's got three pairs of hands: on set of fists, one set for holding accessories, and then a right hand giving a thumbs-up and a left hand giving a peace sign. Or flipping everybody off if she goes to England. There's no shattered gun this time, but she does get a pair of massive hand weights to show off her strength. If they'd really wanted to take a chance, though? You know those replica comics a couple series of Marvel Legends came with? Well, there was an issue of Fantastic Four where a sleazy publisher, learning that She-Hulk liked to sunbathe on top of the Baxter Building, hired a helicopter so he could take photos of her. So use that "comic" mold as the magazine he published! It's not like this figure is being sold in real stores anyway, and it's not like the cover would show anything too risque.

Hasbro made a She-Hulk in her FF uniform before, but that was an SDCC exclusive 19 years ago, so very few people would have it. Sadly, this new one doesn't have a set of softgoods lawyer clothes to dress her in (you could put those clothes on this one, but her chest is bigger and her arms are shorter, so the coat doesn't fit as well, and she doesn't have alternate hands or feet to complete the look), but all the other extras make this FF Retro Collection version better than the Iron Man one.
