Spy x Family
by yo go re

Used to be, I'd get all my anime from [adult swim]. Even when all my friends were talking about something like Attack on Titan, I still wouldn't see it until it showed up on TV. They really seems to have slowed down, though, because more and more there are shows that seem like they'd be perfect for the channel to air, but don't show up. Like, how is [as] not showing Chainsaw Man? Or Frieren? Or Delicious in Dungeon? Or any of the recent Gundam, which is bigger than it's ever been? Right now, if you want to watch Spy x Family, you've gotta go get it yourself.

Intelligence officer belonging to the Western Intelligence Services' Eastern-Focused Division (W.I.S.E.). Codename: "Twilight." He has an extraordinary eye for observation and memory, and is a disguise specialist who can use a hundred different faces. In order to avoid a war between East and West, he sets out on a mission to create a fake family and enroll his child into a prestigious school.

The world of Spy x Family (which is apparently pronounced "Spy Family," but come on, no it's not. It's like Budapest: if you want it to be pronounced "Budapesht," then put an H in it; if you want Hunter x Hunter to be pronounced "Hunter-Hunter," then don't put an X in it) is basically Cold War-era Germany. Like, yes, Ostania and Westalis were separate countries even before the war, but the city where the story takes place is Berlint (technically written as "Berlin't," like a contraction of a contradiction), everything is divided, people are worried about the secret police, etc.

Agent Twilight is a Westalian native operating undercover in the capital of Ostania. His current mission, Operation Strix, requires him to undermine the National Unity Party (which favors starting a new war with the West) by gathering intel from the Party's president to use as leverage against them; meanwhile, he keeps having to do small side-jobs to prevent war from flaring up on its own.

This figure shows Twilight in his "work" clothes: a truly dapper three-piece suit in a soft green, with the vest being slightly darker than the jacket and pants. He pairs it with a red tie, and has a white pocket square sculpted on his left breast. They even got the tiny dagger lapel pin he wears. He doesn't wear a mask or anything to disguise himself - not even a hat. Like, doesn't this suit look like it should have a trilby or bowler or something? You know what would have been really impressive, though? If they could have found some way to give him an alternate "billowing" jacket, to really up the dynamism of his fighting poses.

The Spigh Ecks Famlee toys are part of Tamashii's SH Figuarts line, which means good articulation. The figure stands over 6½" tall (his official height is 6'1½", so this is right in line with Marvel Legends and other 6" scale lines), and features hinged toes, swivel/hinge/swivel ankles, hinged knees (with swivels above and below, but the shape means they don't really turn more than a few millimeters), swivel thighs, swivel/hinge hips, swivel/hinge waist, balljointed chest, swivel/hinge wrists, swivel/hinge/swivel elbows, swivel biceps, swivel/hinge shoulders, balljointed pectoral hinges, a balljointed neck, and barbell head. Twilight is an active, dynamic secret angent, and this figure can do nearly anything you'd like to see.

Figuarts traditionally get a lot of extra parts, so it's not terribly surprising this one comes with your choice of five faces. The one they've put on him in the package is neutral but determined, not to be confused with the utterly gormless neutral face that's also included. The other three include one smiling sweetly, an angry shout, and an upset/shocked face (judging by the fact it's painted with a series of blue lines on the cheek). To swap the faces, pull off the front of the hair (the break is concealed by the sculpt) and they'll trade out easily.

Twilight also gets several pairs of hands: open/relaxed hands, hands with the trigger fingers extended, and fists. And more than that, he gets them both bare and with black gloves on. That's pretty neat! The set also includes his trademark pistol, an imaginary model that's a cross between a Luger and a Walther PPK. None of the "trigger finger" hands are really shaped to hold the gun securely, sadly; if you aim it, there's a good chance it's going to fall out of his hand.

As great as Spy X Family is, Agent Twilight by himself would be a pretty boring release - I mean, it's just a guy in a suit, with one gun. How is that very fun? Fortunately, he doesn't need to be alone for long...
