Barriss Offee

Second to nun. Padawan to Luminara Unduli, Barriss Offee preferred studying ancient Jedi texts over serving on the frontlines of war. But her mindset, while noble, led her down a dark path. Oh now that's interesting! Not because of (potential) spoilers for Clone Wars (and beyond), but because her old toy bio said she "often prefers wielding a lightsaber to participating in diplomatic negotiations," painting her as a bit adventurous, while this one seems to suggest the exact opposite. Since the only thing she did in Episode II (upon which this toy is based) was briefly appear in the battle at the Geonosis arena, do you think she hated her first experience of a true battle and totally changed her personality? Barriss was inspired by the same piece of Dermot Power art that gave us Luminara Unduli, though if you look at it, it's pretty clear he wasn't drawing two people, he was drawing two views of one person, from the front and side. Her skin is a minorly darker green than Luminara's, and her facial tattoos spread acros her cheeks and the bridge of her nose like freckles, rather than on her chin. Since she's only viewed from the side in that inspiring concept art, her outfit lacks the parallels to Asajj Ventress that her master displayed: her shirt is extremely fitted, but not tight, and she has no loincloth hanging from her belt. Her skirt and cape are softgoods, but her hood is plastic: theoretically you could get that off if you wanted to, but you'd have to remove the head to do it, and it's not like that's really intended to be done. She's sculpted wearing the skullcap she was seen with in Clone Wars, rather than the bare hair of older toys, though for full accuracy she'd need to have a little bit of hair poking out at the nape of her neck. Without the extra costume elements, Barriss is definitely less colorful than Luminara is. They tried to match the black of her shirt and skirt, but the sculpted lines on her top catch the light more than cloth does, and so it looks lighter by comparison. Her belt is brown, with similar copper coloring on the buckle as Luminara had on her accents. In order to create the pattern on her cape, they've chosen to print it, similar to the seams on Dooku's Jedi cape. It's a nice move, but unfortunately they only painted it on the outside, when it should really be on both sides. The first time Barriss Offee got an action figure, it was extremely pre-posed, almost as much as the Unleashed figures are. She's had more normal ones since, and this one, being part of the Black Series, naturally has plenty of joints: barbell head, balljoint neck, pectoral hinges, swivel/hinge shoulders, swivel/hinge elbows, swivel/hinge wrists, balljoint waist, balljointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel shins, and swivel/hinge ankles. That's an older style of knee joint; has this figure just been sitting around waiting to be released? The old DK Visual Dictionary said she specializes in tandem fighting, using the Force to perfectly harmonize with the moves of whoever she's fighting alongside, allowing them both to attack or defend as one; so it's a good thing she's as movable as the older figures. How else would she keep up! Barriss' only accessory is her lightsaber, with a removable blue blade. The hilt has a peg, but there's no matching hole on the figure where it could be plugged in. Funny how the Vintage Collection one could manage that apparently insurmountable task over a decade ago. It would have been nice if she included a deflected laser blast, like her first toy did; that was a really cool idea for a low-cost/low-effort Star Wars accessory. And since Lightsaber blades are all the same size, it's the type of thing that could be reused endlessly or swapped around to whatever figure you wanted. Alternately, they could have made this figure a little more "Clone Wars" by including the brain worms that infected her. In the old Legends continuity, Barriss Offee was about Anakin's age; that got cheated down a little during The Clone Wars, because they had the idea to give her and Ahsoka some romantic tension. The character was originally supposed to die in Revenge of the Sith during the Order 66 montage, blown up by an AT-TE tank, but that scene got cut; then she was supposed to die during the Clone Wars episode "The Wrong Jedi," but Dave Filoni didn't like that, so he cut it from the script; we know she survived into the Empire era, but right now her ultimate fate is unclear. As inseparable as Luminara and Barriss are, it would be kind of weird to only have one of their figures and not both, but they'd definitely both be better with more accessories than just a lightsaber they have to hold forever. -- 06/13/26 Would you have been on Team "Barrisoka"?
