Remember when Marvel used to publish a humor comic called What The--?! (itself a spinoff of What If?)? No, you probably don't. But they did. There was a single-panel gag in one of the issues asking "What if Power Man was a girl and Wonder Man was a woman," with an editor's note covering the artwork and telling the writer that they were never going to run his idea. A little bit meta, that. This, obviously, was inspired by that. Wonder Woman, Wonder Man, Power Girl and Power Man on a double-date.
