Here we see Lion-O cutting a promo for his upcoming match at "Carnage Slam" while Mean Gene Okerlund listens on.
This toon was basically just an excuse to show off how good Mean Gene looks standing next to a 6" figure. The choice to make that figure Lion-O was inspired by the '80s Childhood Royal Rumble. That and the fact that his skin is the same color as Hulk Hogan's.
We put out the call on Twitter to come up with a name for the Pay-Per-View. Carnage Slam was the first response, but others include:
- Starbash
- The Temple of PAIN!
- Retaliation Domination
Someone also suggested Grapplemania, which we used for the title of the strip. Why? Because hopefully in the future, another Figuretoon will bring us Grapplemania II.
Also, "the dead man" is one of the Undertaker's nicknames, but it seems appropriate for Mumm-Ra too.
One of Hulk Hogan's catchphrases was "What you gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild on you," and "sight beyond sight" is the thing Lion-O's sword did when he looked through the hilt.
