Yor Forger

Spy x Family
by yo go re

If this isn't how you're giving mother, we don't want any of it.

An office worker who works at Berlint City Hall. She has a soft and gentle personality, but has a lot of assumptions. She has a bad drinking habit and becomes confused when she drinks. At home, she strives to be a good wife and kind mother. Her cooking skills are terrible, but she likes cleanliness and is good at cleaning.

Just as Western cultures have the concept of the "old maid," a woman who's approaching middle age yet isn't in a relationship, Japan has the "Christmas Cake": the same way nobody wants a Christmas cake after December 25th, clearly no one would want a woman over 25. (Sometimes this is bumped up to 31, as "New Year's Noodles.") Yor Forger is 27, and it was the fact her coworkers thought it was weird she'd never had a boyfriend that made her amenable to Loid's overtures - the last thing an assassin wants is anyone noticing her or thinking about what she does in her spare time.

Similar to how Loid was originally "Lloyd" in the translated comics, Yor has not always been Yor: Manga Plus originally kept things very true to the Japanese, directly translating ヨル as "Yoru." Her codename, Thorn Princess, seems to be based on her real last name, "Briar" - though as far as opsec goes, you'd expect an assassination syndicate to be more discreet.

Yor doesn't have a lot of experience in social situations, which may be why she thinks it's perfectly normal to wear a frickin' virgin killer sweater as casual around-the-home apparel. Off-the-shoulder, semi backless... it's no wonder Loid finds himself forgetting that this relationship is only supposed to be a cover, not a real thing. She's got black tights beneath, and wears tan ankle boots. The knit pattern on the sweater is fully sculpted, and looks great even at such a small size. Her hair is held back by a white headband, and she wears pointy golden drop earrings.

Although the sweater is, in the cartoon, a single unbroken garment, the toy does it in separate pieces to best preserve the articulation. So from the back, it looks like she's wearing a jacket, a skirt, and some kind of wrap. You'll just have to will yourself not to see it. SH Figuarts have good articulation, so Yor moves at the toes, ankles, knees, thighs, hips, chest, wrists, elbows, biceps, shoulders, neck, and head. She doesn't get in fights as often while wearing this outfit as she does while wearing her black dress, but it does still happen, so those slits in the back of the sweater keep the legs from getting blocked.

The figure's standard face is the same sort of blandly pleasant smile the first one had, which is disappointing - we want new expressions! Luckily, we do get the usual four bonus faces, and those are all their own things. Well, three out of four of them have blush lines painted on the cheeks, but they're still unique. The first has the eyes closed because she's smiling so broadly; the second has the mouth open slightly and the eyes half-closed, to show she's drunk; the third is alarmed, with the mouth open wide; and the fourth is angry and ready to fight. But not as angry as the angry head Assassin Yor had, so it still counts as new. You swap the faces by removing her bangs, but in her case, you can also remove the back of the hair, changing between versions that are bound up, or hanging down.

We're used to Figuarts coming with alternate hands, and Yor does, but she also gets something else: an alternate skirt. This one is shaped to allow her to sit; siply pull the figure apart at the chest joint (it's even easier than getting her hair off), remove the waist/skirt piece, and trade it for one where the skirt is molded in a right angle. It's a cute inclusion, but the set doesn't include a chair or anything, so you'll have to find something for her to sit on on your own.

Part of Yor's assassin training involves immunity to poisons, but that doesn't make her immune to alcohol - at least, not to getting drunk. In fact, she's an extrene lightweight. The figure includes a bottle of wine (because moms love wine) and a wine glass, as well as hands to specifically hold them. To really complete the scene, there are translucent red dots that fit inside the wine glass to make it look like she's poured herself a drink! One of them is flat, the other angled like she's tipping her glass. Neat! Her other hands include fists, relaxed, holding, chopping, splayed, and a set that allows her to hold hands with Anya: a Yor-sized hand and an Anya-sized hand, molded as one, and able to attach to both their wrists. Like Ultra Magnus's clasping hand.

Yor is a wonderfully cute character; she's insanely competent when working, but utterly gentle and loving with her family. It's no wonder she's a fan-favorite! The Thorn Princess figure was great, but it's exciting to get civilian Yor as well. And that means there's only one family member left...
