It's time once again to thumb through the toy section of this month's Previews, and see what goodies we can uncover. Scheduled to start shipping in February.
Hey, did you notice there was no November entry? We didn't. Not until just now. Sorry about that.
This month's entry starts with two pages of disappointment. DC Direct's Ame-Comi vinyl figures are nice, but they'd be a lot cooler if they A) moved and 2) weren't $50 freaking dollars. Wonder Woman and Cheetah look nice, but why couldn't they be real toys?
Green Lantern Series 3 is looking pretty sweet on page 126. Star Sapphire, Sinestro, Cyborg Superman and Batman as a GL. At last, a chance to own Cyborg without paying over $100 for him!
Hey, look! 3" MLB figures on page 161! Nobody cares!
There are a couple good figures in Cooperstown Collection Series 5 (page 163). Mickey Mantle, Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron... some other guys. Yeah.
Now they're doing 3" Military figures? This is just getting sad. If you want some half-assed, low-rent GI Joe knockoffs, page 164 is your idea of heaven.
As cool as Evan Dorkin and Sarah Dyer's Milk & Cheese are, you really wish the Milk & Cheese vinyl set was less than $70. Make those bastards out of plastic and charge us $15, guys.
Not a toy, but IDW's Transformers Spotlight: Arcee is listed on page 288, and sounds pretty good.
Online Lego destination Brick Journal is becoming a print publication. Get the groundbreaking first issue from page 370.
The fun really starts on page 415, with Futurama Series 2. That's the one with Leela and Zapp Brannigan. And two more part of the robot devil. Wish they'd just bite the bullet and release all six figures at once. My Devil needs all his parts!
There are also two GI Joe listings on this page: the individually carded series has a few re-releases, plus the new additions of Rock N' Roll, Torpedo and Armored Cobra Commander. The comic two-packs show off Destro/Breaker and Torch/Ripper.
Marvel Select has a new 616 Incredible Hulk listed on page 418. Not bad, but still not the best one ever released.
If you haven't ordered the AFX exclusive Minimates Defenders box set yet, you can get it on page 420. In other Minimate news, you can also find 24: Season 3 box set and an End of Day 3 two-pack.
There's also a listing for NECA's new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Series 1 - the ones based on the original comic, not the cartoons. Very cool to finally see the figure (Leonardo is shown).
NECA's Alien vs. Predator Series 2 is listed on page 422. It's called a "series," but it's actually just masked and unmasked versions of the Pred.
Who's making the Ramones two-pack on page 428? Is that NECA? Sure looks like it. This one's Joey and Johnny.
Page 429 is interesting - there's a listing for Galactic Heroes two-packs, and the text is all about existing sets, but the pictures tell a different story: there are pictures of Aayla Secura and a yellow Clone Commander, Ki Adi Mundi with a reddish Clone (Bacara, maybe?), and Saesee Tiin/(Darth Maul species) Jedi. Nerds will know who all those people are.
I have to admit, the two Revoltech figures on page 476 really look nice. There's Rei Ayanami from NGE, and a cardboard box robot from something else. But still, he looks just as cool as she does.
There are 7" Gears of War figures on page 490. The solicit claims they're "fully poseable," but that they only have 12 points of articulation. Who's making these? NECA often has stuff back here in the Collectibles section, so is it them?
Who here is old enough to remember Madballs? They're back again, and on page 494.
