This holiday season, the Action Figure and Comic Art communities are taking time to honor the men and women who serve and sacrifice to protect their freedoms.
On December 7th, beginning at 6:00 PM EDT, TheBigToyAuction.com will be holding a Charity Auction to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The auction features donated toys, custom pieces, sculpture and original pieces of comic art. 100% of the hammer price of every item sold will go directly to the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a registered 501(c)(3) charity.
Since 2002 WWP has worked to raise awareness of the issues facing injured service members, to help injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members. In addition to delivering thousands of packs filled with essential care items to returning wounded veterans, WWP provides job training and education through its TRACK program, and rehabilitation through the Project Odyssey Combat Stress Recovery Program.
"We are really excited to be able to get involved with this and help out the WWP," says Christopher Noon, auctioneer at TheBigToyAuction.com. "I grew up as an army brat, and know firsthand the difficulties of family members coping with disabled veterans returning from the field. This was a great opportunity for us to get involved and give back, so I jumped at the chance."
Contributing artists so far include Dan Khanna, Two Rabbits Studios, KidRobot, Brett Wolff, Tweeterhead, Andrew Bell, and Suckadelic. Donated works are still being accepted to be auctioned off at the December 7th event. Anyone wishing to donate any pieces, large or small, b&w or color, 3D or 2D, are welcome to do so and to urge friends and family to send in pieces or bid. Bidders are encouraged to spread the word about the event through blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media. Links are available through the auction page to do so.
"We welcome all works, by professionals and amateurs alike," says Noon. "In fact, we encourage active duty and former servicemen and women to share their modern-day trench art with us and let their art share their stories."
Bidders who can't make it to the Live event can leave absentee bids or bid Live during the auction Webcast at http://www.TheBigToyAuction.com/WWP.html.
The online gallery will be continually updated as more donations are received. Bidders can preview and inspect items in the auction catalog, and register to bid through the Proxibid Platform at http://TheBigToyAuction.com/bidlive.html. Registration is completely free and open to all.
