Soon Forget: Mighty Mutanimals

This is the latest in a series (of indefinite length and regularity) of blog posts memorializing cancelled toys. Our figures today are Fun Publications' proposed TMNT box set.

As revealed in a Facebook post, back in 2016, FunPub (the people who were, at the time, behind the official Transformers and GI Joe Collectors' Clubs) attempted to start an Official TMNT Convention, complete with a con-exclusive box set. The set would have reused molds from the 2012 animated series and the Michael Bay movie to create characters based on the '90s Mighty Mutanimals spinoff.

As you can see, the ideas ranged from "uhh, okay, if you say so" to "godawful crimes against nature," and from "that's mildly clever" to "what even is the point?" A few figures even got so far as to have bio cards created:

Clearly the idea of a FunPub TMNT Con never got off the ground, although whether that's simply because Nickelodeon and Playmates Toys weren't interested, or if it had something to do with the reasons Hasbro would choose not to renew the TF and GI Joe licenses a year later, we couldn't say.

  1. I'm astounded they didn't use Slash for Tokka.

  2. Why do Ray Fillet & Wingnut get cloth wings while Ace Duck has movie Shredder gauntlets?
