Transformers Legacy Evolution: Nemesis Prime review

You know how I love a black Optimus Prime!

Nemesis Prime is the evil reflection of his namesake. His ruthlessness and lack of restraint make him a deadly opponent.

It's kind of wild that Transformers Legacy featured both a Scourge and a Nemesis Prime, isn't it? They're functionally the same character with different names. It would be like releasing both a Wheeljack and a Downshift: superfluous. At least this one is Evolution rather than the plain line? And they're different scales: this is a Legends Class figure, or "Core" as Hasbro calls them now, with surprisingly good articulation. And a blue axe that can plug into his arm.

The conversion process is pretty much the same as the Nemesis Prime from a decade ago, though the sculpt of the actual toy owes more to Earthrise, as evidenced by the style of the robot's legs or the length of the truck cab. The robot moves at the knees, hips, waist, chest, elbows, shoulders, and head, and the truck features rolling wheels. The axe can tuck between his arms for storage in his altmode. As is Nemesis Prime tradition, he's black with red and teal highlights.

The first time I found this figure, I ended up having to return him to the store: the robot's head had fallen off, and I didn't notice until I opened it. Took quite a while to find a second, but it was a very passive search: I could already tell this was going to be fine, but not something to worry about if I missed it.

It's funny enough that the line featured Scourge and Nemesis Prime... But to further complicate things, Scourge was in Black Convoy colors, not Scourge's.

Throw in a Nucleon Quest black repaint of Legacy Deluxe G1 Prime and I think we've got the black Optimus market covered.
