Wendy's DC Heroes 2025 Set 5 exclusive review

Mini-Figure Mini-Reviews

After a couple new themes, we're back to one we've seen before. In Series 1 of these boxed minifigures, the fifth set revolved around Green Lantern, and now the same is true this year. Last time it was Jessica Cruz, and this time it's John Stewart, because Wendy's is smart enough to stay far away from Hal. What's really going to be funny is once the new Superman movie opens and suddenly Guy Gardner is better-known and more popular than Hal, too! The edges of John's costume are sculpted on, which is how you know it's him and not someone else with a buzzcut: that means raised parts over the chest/shoulders, the wrists, and his boots, but no trunks or anything.

Not technically a Lantern (of any color) but tangentially related, our next figure is Blue Beetle. Jaime Reyes one, not Ted Kord. That means lots of sculpted armor! They really went all out for this one, not only getting the big bug legs that hold the scarab backpack in place, but even the small panel lines on the rest of the body. neat! Befitting a generally happy character, he's sculpted with a smile on his face. Sadly, due to the way these figures have to be made for safety reasons, it wasn't possible to give Jaime his suit's wings or any other weapons; this is just him standing straight up with his arms bent up to the sides, a general "strength" pose.

It didn't occur to me until now, but in all these sets, both series, there's always at least one girl. Like, we gave the original Wonder Woman box flak for including Cyborg, but it would have been very easy to do a Batman or Superman set with three boys, and they've consistently chosen not to, so that deserves praise. The third figure in this set continues the Series 2 trend of "anti-heroes, not outright villains," because it's Star Sapphire. That's right, Hal, even your angry ex-girlfriend is a better choice for toys than you are! This is her original, tasteful costume, not the modern "look at my glowing muffin" style. She's sculpted with earrings behind her flared mask, a starburst on his belt, and her tiara thing acting like a headband to hold back her hair. With just one fist raised, her pose is the same as John's.

With one green character, one blue character, and one red character (well, "pink," but that's as close as it gets), pretty much any of the colors the 2025 Wendy's DC Keshi figures are available in would have suited this set nicely. Naturally, I managed to get the set in gold; at least everybody is getting slighted equally?
