yo - small minds

Pardon me as I editorialize for a moment.

A lot of fanboys got really pissy after Identity Crisis, and they've managed to hold onto that for a long time - spending most of their time looking for excuses to hate DC. One of the dumbest came after DC's Executive Editor, Dan DiDio, had the temerity to admit that most of DC's heroes were middle-class whiteys, and set out to do something about it. So now, these dimbulbs find themselves in the oh-so-solid position of attacking DC for not being racist. Wow, you're really going to get anybody on your side with that one.

The Atom is Chinese? Firestorm's black? Blue Beetle is Latino? So the hell what? These characters aren't being introduced because they're minorities, they're just heroes who happen to be minorities. It's as simple as that. They're just people. These guys are all really interesting, and the only thing drawing attention to their race is the loud cries of the fanboy masses. And it's not even that the fanboys who are complaining are actually racist themselves - they just can't pass up any opportunity to attack Dan DiDio, even indirectly. They don't have the balls to stand up and say "I don't like these characters because I personally dislike Dan DiDio, and I dislike Dan DiDio because Identity Crisis was different from what I'm used to and that scares me." So they go on hating characters they've never given a shot, toeing the company line and hating DC because this is the internet, and that's what they're supposed to do...
