Transformers BotBots Remorsel review

So Hasbro wants to start charging $30 for Deluxe Class Transformers? That's fine, we've got plenty of BotBots left to cover.

We're going all the way back to Series 1 today, to the central area of the Transformers BotBots mall, where there were two stores for the Sugar Shocks to call home: one on the ground floor, and one on the third floor. Today's Bot is upstairs, hiding in robot mode.

You already know that chocolate was originally intended for drinking, but how did we get from that to chocolate bars like this one? Well, as much as everyone (rightly) makes fun of British cuisine, they're ultimately responsible from the shift from liquid to solid: in 1657, a French immigrant opened "At the Coffee Mill and Tobacco Roll," the first chocolate house (like "coffee house," not like "gingerbread house") in London; 17 years later, they began serving cakes and rolls with chocolate in them, the first time chocolate was for eating instead of drinking. This bar has a blue wrapper with gold foil, and it's all been pulled down to reveal the dark brown bar within. It's got four little squares on the front (used for reliably portioning a full-sized bar), and a bite taken out of the corner.

BotBots are easy to convert, so all you have to do to create a robot mode is slide the top of the wrapper up to reveal the eyes, fold the arms down, and pull out the legs from inside the body.

Some bots look on the bright side. Remorsel is the opposite. He expects everything to go wrong. He's always moping around, waiting for things to get worse. When they do, he celebrates with a hearty "harrumph."

Well that's fitting for a bot made of dark chocolate - in every form, he's bitter! The robot looks good, with the face and hands being white, and thus really standing out from the dark body. The gold sections on the chest keep the body from looking plain, and you can choose whether you want to lift the "foil" part of the wrapper up only part-way, like the official art shows, or all the way, to form a kind of headband. The gold paint is a little sloppy, but on this style of toy, we really don't care as much as we do on a real one.

Remorsel was available blindpacked in Series 1, as figure #06. The mold was reused to make Series 2's Mocklate, Series 3's Sweet Cheat, and Series 4's DJ Fudgey Fresh.
