The Lost Predators

NECA is doing a superb job of turning the Predators seen at the end of Predator 2 into toys. As pointed out in today's review of Snake Predator, it's not just their armor, but also the accessories they come with that are taken straight from the film. Here's a handy chart to prove it:

As you can see, if a figure comes with a disc or a spear or anything else, it's because he had the same thing on-screen. Clearly, there's a lot of attention paid to every detail - which is all the more impressive when you find out that Fox didn't have any reference material on the costumes to give NECA, which means they're doing it all the hard way.

It's also worth noting that for the most part, the names NECA has given the figures are not the same names they've always been known by. None of the Preds are ever called anything at all, but since fans needed to discuss them, they all got various nicknames:

Series 3

Series 4

Series 5

Series 6

So out of all of them, Boar and Snake are the only ones whose names remained the same (and even then, some people called Snake "Snake Hunter"). It's also interesting that the guy NECA calls "Lost" is different from the one the fans called the same thing.

And while we're at it, nobody seems to know where the "Lost Predators" name for the group came from. Though we'd definitely be interested to hear.

Additionally, Hot Toys refers to the Snake as "Shadow Predator", and I've also seen the Scout called the "P1 type" due to his mask being the same as the classic Predator from the original film.

Cool to see you guys dissecting our work and showing all the research we did. So a few more tidbits to add, they became known as the "Lost" because literally almost everything on these guys was lost after shooting. The crew at Stan Winston's put all these Preds together very quickly and none of it was well documented. Very little of the original costumes, armor, or the trophy skulls survived. We have scoured the net, the stuntman and athletes who were the suits, and some of the artists who worked for Winston at the time. Major time and effort was put into re-creating all of these guys 2 years ago. Very proud of the results and what we were able to do. Best of all you will be able to get a few of them in 1/4 scale over the next 4-6 months.

One last note, the one you call "Borg" has also been known as Lost by fans and by Hot Toys as they used the Lost name for their version of this figure some years back. We took all the names into account, used what we thought fit best but included the other names as aliases or aka on the backs of the packaging to be thorough

    Glad you're enjoying the figures!!

Re: Lost/Borg: All we could find was fans asking why Sideshow called their figure "Lost" - the consensus seemed to be that they chose it because it was an amalgamation of several different costumes (Borg's body, Stalker's mask and Shaman's spear) meant to represent the group as a whole.

However, I'd completely forgotten that you were putting their aliases on the back of the cards. That would have made this a lot easier! Now we'll have to go double-check to make sure we didn't miss any.

    Hello!
The Predators of the hunting party (not including the City Hunter) are often referred to collectively as the "Lost Predators" because the suits used to depict them on film were literally lost after production was completed. (Source: http://avp.wikia.com).
