Soon Forget: Classic Krang

This is the latest in a series (of indefinite length and regularity) of blog posts memorializing cancelled toys. Our figure today is Playmates' TMNT Krang.

With NECA nipping at their heels, Playmates introduced the TMNT Classics line, an attempt to court the collector market. It was received decently, and there was a slow trickle of figures released annually. At San Diego Comic-Con in 2014, Playmates debuted a Classics Krang in the display at their booth, intended for release the following year.

While the Shredder they unveiled at the same time did eventually see release, in a Classics two-pack in 2021 and finally solo as part of the "Ninja Elite Series" in 2023, Krang has never made it to production. According to the design sheet for the figure, Krang himself would have been removable from the robot body, and the set would have included a Brain Drain Blaster rifle and Krang's Communicator, which would have fit on the brain's little tentacle arm.

Considering it would be years before NECA made their own version of the android body, this probably ould have found a place in many collections.
