As we said in today's review, Johnny Silverhand first appeared in 1988's Cyberpunk 2013 roleplaying game, in an adventure titled "Never Fade Away."
Since the story is 10 black-and-white pages of almost entirely text, we're not going to share the entire thing here. You can find it in Welcome to Night City, the game's sourcebook, but here at least is the first page:
Yeah, nine more pages of that would be boring. But the internet is full of dedicated nerds, so someone's narrated the entire thing. Give it a listen!
But if that's not enough for you, CD Projekt Red wanted to honor Cyberpunk's history, so right there in 2077 is a flashback mission where you play through the events (or near enough) of "Never Fade Away":
(They did the same thing with "Firestorm Shockwave," the mission where dead Johnny dead-died, but that took more liberties with the story, with the excuse being that being in close proximity to a detonating nuke was not great for the fidelity of memory storage. This one's a lot closer to the published version people have been playing for more than 30 years; it's just that Johnny is an unreliable narrator.)
