Toho Super Kaiju: Series 1 building

As I said in today's review, the destroyed buildings included with Super7's Target-exclusive Super Kaiju figures were the thing that made me want to get the line. Of course, that's when I mistakenly thought they would be the 7" Ultimates scale, not this new smaller size, but still.

Since there are only two Super Kaiju figures so far, there are only two building parts: the top and the bottom. That's right, the neat thing about these is that the two fit together to form a full building. Godzilla had the bottom half, while Mechagodzilla gets the top. The two don't attach in any way, with the upper half just resting on the lower through the force of gravity, but there is a plus side: that makes the building easier to break apart in a monster fight!

The pieces are molded in neutral grey plastic with no paint. They're hollow, with Godzilla's piece having rubble on top, and Mechagodzilla's of course having a roof. The windows on the bottom of the building are a different style than the ones on top, though in a way that simply looks like an architectural choice, not a mistake. The "assembled" building is about 2½" tall, but what scale that's in depends on which of the two toys you're comparing it to.

Godzilla | Mechagodzilla

Including Build-A-Building pieces with Godzilla toys is a grand idea, but it's not enough to overcome the generally poor quality of the line as a whole.

These figures did a fantastic job making Bamco's figures look like a goddamn steal.

Super7 tends to make other figures seem like a great deal.

Yeah, I'm generally not terribly interested in the $20 Bandai figures since I've got MonsterArts (And Figuarts of Ultraman since it seems some places are selling the Ultraman and Godzilla stuff side by side) already but damn, if someone I know wants more affordable Godzilla figures, I definitely am recommending those over the Super7 stuff.

Earlier today I was actually talking to a friend about how much better the Blokees Transformers stuff is over the ReAction figures if you want TF blind bags at half the cost. Super7 really does just sorta exist to let us know how bad prices could get...
