First Batman returns, now Wonder Woman? This whole series had better not be rehashes of Series 1!
Jokey-jokes aside, the Series 2 Wonder Woman is emphatically not the same as her 2023 equivalent. In fact, she's more different than the two Batmen were! This time she's wearing a cape, which makes this more of a "Ceremonial Diana" than a combat one. She has one fist on her hip, and her right arm raised to flex some muscle. Her hair is straighter this time, not wavy, and since her cape covers her entire back, her lasso is sculpted on the front of her belt this time. Since the stars on her trunks are sculpted on, it makes sense that the border of stars along the side edges of her cape are, as well - but were you expecting the string that ties it at her neck? I know I wasn't!
I don't know what it is about these sets that makes Wendy's say "Wonder Woman must be paired with someone who has an afro," but last time she was teamed up with Cyborg, and this time it's Black Lightning. He was one of the characters who would have made a cameo appearance in the sticker set if it had been made instead of plastic figurines, so it's nice to see him here. As usual, the costume chosen for this toy is straight out of the old DC Style Guide, his 70s look with the pirate boots and disco collar. And remember, at the time the afro was part of the costume, not his actual hair. Smart! He's posed standing straight up, with both arms flexed at his sides, which really works for an electric hero: it's like he's going Super Saiyan!
Rather than an actual villain, Set #2 finishes up with an anti-hero at most: Artemis, the replacement Wonder Woman of the '90s. Unlike the other characters, she has a fairly modern costume; after all, putting her in the Wonder Woman suit would be repetitive, and the battle thong and skulls she wore after would have been tacky. So this is her Giuseppe Camuncoli "Rebirth" costume, making it less than a decade old at this point. She has short boots with long shin-guards, a utility belt rather than a girdle, and bandages wrapped around her arms under her armor. The details in her breastplate are molded on, including the arrow head that honors her namesake, the Goddess of the Hunt. Her hair is pulled up into a top-knot ponytail, and she's got a frown on her face, since she's as close to a bad guy as this box gets.
It's harder to identify what set you're getting in Series 2 than it was in Series 1: back then, there was a large number - and color - prominently shown on the bottom of the box, making it easy to pick the ones you needed; this time, however, there's a small code (printed in black ink on a dark blue background) that has the number and a letter identifying the color - so this box was 3374WB-2G, meaning Set 2, color Green (the others are A for Amber [aka "gold"], R for Red, and B for Blue). Hope you've got good eyesight!
