Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 60th Anniversary Mystery Minis - Misfit Elephant exclusive review

Funko Friday

2024 was the 60th anniversary of Rankin/Bass' Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer TV special, and Funko released a set of Mystery Minis in honor of it. Or, well, not Mystery Minis - like so many other Minis sold at Five Below, they're in window boxes, allowing you to pick what you want. Innovative!

My first grab was the Misfit Elephant. Who wouldn't want that little cutey! He's one of the most merchandised Misfits, with plushes and action figures galore, which really suggests he's not much of a "misfit" after all. Oh no, not an elephant with adorable spots? That's totally on the same level as a train with square wheels or a bird that's half fish!

Back in 2001, Playing Mantis did a whole Rudolph line under their "Memory Lane" brand, and the Santa figure included a Spotted Elephant as an accessory. That piece was basically the same size as this Mini, and it similarly had no articulation, so this isn't as unique as the others in the Funko line - only so many ways to do "pleasantly round pachyderm" after all. But this is appropriately adorable, a white body with magenta dots and blue for the fingers, toes, and tip of the snout. The proportions are more exaggerated here (larger head, thinner body) and the pose is more dynamic, but still.

It's absolutely impossible for me to ever see anything related to Rankin/Bass's Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and not immediately think of MadTV's Raging Rudolph. I really want a headless Saint Nick or Yukon Corleone figure.
