Soon Forget: Buffy

This is the latest in a series (of indefinite length and regularity) of blog posts memorializing cancelled toys. Our subject today is Diamond Select's Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Initially picking up where Moore Action Collectibles left off, the DST Buffy line was heavy on repaints and light on articulation, and was limping to the end now that it's been replaced by the superior Deluxe edition figures.

The final series, divided into two waves, was to include "Doppelgangland" Oz, "School Hard" Drusilla and "Band Candy" Giles, and then "Fear Itself" Oz, Vampire Drusilla and Principal Wood.

There was also going to be an exclusive "New Moon Rising" Oz, but no word on where:

The really annoying thing is that this series was going to adopt ToyBiz's popular "Build-A-Figure" scheme, with each figure coming with a piece that would allow you to build Season 2 baddie The Judge: sculpted by Rudy Garcia, the Judge was originally planned to be part of a "monsters" series that gave us lots of villains and demons, but that was apparently canceled because retailers insisted on having "main characters."

According to Diamond, they fell abut 3,000 short of the preorders needed for this series to move forward, so now the non-deluxe Buffy line is finished.
