So we previously told you that Stephen Sommers would be returning to direct GI Joe 2. Well, as reported first by The LA Times (and repeated almost immediately by everyone else everywhere), today that story changes.
Apparently two agents who represent other directors have been approached about their guys taking over the reins, and were told Sommers would not be returning. Paramount has denied the story, but that's their job, isn't it?
A lot of fans will be happy with this news, and I doubt anyone will really be upset about it. Sommers did okay, but he didn't do great. Still, a change like this at this date isn't necessarily a good sign. Will the new director still want to use the existing script? Will the movie be able to start filming this year, like it was supposed to? This news raises more questions than it answers.
