Flippin' through Previews - March '14

It's time once again to thumb through the toy section of this month's Previews, and see what goodies we can uncover. Scheduled to start shipping in May.

On page 162, DC Direct has a New 52 Orion figure.

The Infinite Crisis toys are now going to be in a 1:9 scale, according to page 163, starting with Pajama Party Harley Quinn and Atomic Green Lantern.

Earth 2 is getting more toys on page 164: Superman, Batman, and Hawkgirl.

Page 165 has an Arkham Origins three-pack featuring Red Hood, unmasked Deathstroke, and Copperhead.

And if you missed the Arkham Asylum Joker, Harley Quinn, Scarecrow, or Batman, you can get a set of all four on page 167.

IDW continues to be the place for comics based on toys, including My Little Pony (page 184), Littlest Pet Shop (page 185), GI Joe (page 189), and Transformers (pages 190/191).

Transformers and Deadpool fans should check out the Car Pool T-shirt on page 271.

And there's a big Skeletor face on a T shirt on page 447.

Plants vs. Zombies is getting toys? Page 452 and 453 say so!

Turning the page, we find Minimates for Pulp Fiction and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, and one more turn will bring you Sin City. Then you turn the page again, and it's Battle Beasts. Wow!

Pages 466-470 have a big spread of Power Rangers stuff.

If you like plain listings of upcoming toys with zero pictures, you'll like page 474/5 for TMNT, and page 477 for Transformers.

Retro fans will enjoy the tin toys on page 476.

At last Super Mario Bros. is getting real toys! Page 510 has the SH Figuarts Mario and two playsets giving him extra pieces for display.

Speaking of SH Figuarts, page 512 has the Blue and Yellow Power Rangers.

Stickers! Transformers and My Little Pony stickers! With a 4x6" comic, a poster, and a temporary tattoo. Look at them on page 514. Or order them (and standalone posters) on pages 524 and 527.

1:9? What the hell kind of scale is 1:9?

Math says it's 8", so why not just say that?

Also, why are they making toys in an 8" scale?

    • Onslaught says:

I don't know if these are so much toys as more McFarlane style pieces, meaning minimal articulation and a basically fixed pose. But 8" really boggles the mind

I just don't get why DC Collectibles has gone so collector unfriendly with their multipacks - first it was New 52 Justice League figures that demanded you rebuy the core Leaguers to get JLA characters, then it was large Arkham City figures that you had to rebuy old core characters to get and now it's a 3-pack which has one new figure and two re-dos with new heads (that Red Hood head and cape looks a lot like the one from the 'Unmasked' series). I would have thought that a singular Copperhead figure would move more units than bundling it up with two less unique figures and increasing the price significantly. At least the New 52 World's Finest and Arrow sets have the sense to offer two unique characters in their sets.

I agree, it's really frustrating when there's a multipack with one new character. They should really be limited to characters new fans might not have had the opportunity to buy (like the Asylum four-pack) or simple repaints...

      • Sledgehama says:

Well the response to the very question of why she's in a multi-pack was answered in the DC Collectibles Q&A - they didn't feel the demand would be there to produce a solo figure so they lumper her in to a multi-pack with two 'cool' variants of highly demanded figures. Sounds very Mattel-ish to me - we wanted Hugo Strange for goodness sake, why wouldn't we want one of the main marketing hyped assassins?

        • yo go re says:

I wouldn't say she was one of the main hyped villains - I didn't know Copperhead was 1) a woman, or 2) even in the game at all until seeing this toy.

But still, a sexy lady in orange leather pants? OF COURSE people would want that!
