This is the latest in a series (of indefinite length and regularity) of blog posts memorializing cancelled toys. Our figure today is Hasbro's Transformers Animated Optimus Prime.
We've had a few looks what TF Animated Season 4 would have contained, if it hadn't been cancelled, but it was more than just story ideas: the toys were in the works, as well.
The Allspark Almanac II revealed that, in order to compete with the now-freed Megatron, Optimus Prime would have gotten an armor upgrade, finally getting a permanent trailer that would turn into Powermaster armor for him.
Like the Generation 1 Powermaster Prime, he even would have included a Mini-Con partner who would turn into an engine and unlock various electronics in the bigger toy.
If that weren't enough, Prime himself would have gotten a bit of a redesign. He would have gained flames on his ankles, a feature influenced by Movie Optimus Prime, and a yellow flare on his chest like Star Convoy.
Imagine if Hasbro had been extremely bold, and had brought some of those planned features back for today's Legacy United release.
