Not content to stand still, Greenbriar International (they of Dollar Tree/Family Dollar corporate parentage) have been releasing accessory packs for their various Final Faction figures: the character will come out, and then a while later, the accessory pack will come out, increasing interest. What's really surprising is that in 2022, they released a second pack for the Kharn Synthoid over a year after its initial release.
Azhorra
A tentacled nightmare, Azhorra reaches out and entraps enemies before the Synthoid drags them to their doom.
Gettin' weird right out the gate! Really leaning into the idea that Synthoids are grown, rather than built, this piece replaces the right arm with a mass of vine-like tentacles. There are three of them, molded together from a bright green plastic, and they're each different lenths. They're sculpted to curl around wildly, and a row of spiny growths pokes out along their length to make them look even better at gripping.
Ctagoth
The plasmoid discharge of the Ctagoth cripples man and machine, leaving both torn asunder.
This giant gun replaces the left arm, albeit not well: the pegs that slip into the shoulder cavity are for some reason larger on these arms than on either the originals or the previous accessory pack's; it's not just that they're a tight fit, they're actually large enough to at least partially force the two halve pf the toy's body apart! What the heck? They may need to be shaved down a bit. This gun has the same scooped shape as the Synthoid's normal arms, but has a large, swirling, purple blaster in the center to match its chest. The edges of the piece are scalloped, like they could saw through something by striking it, and there's a visible difference between the outer shell of the weapon and the arm that's supporting it.
Wythrym
With the dragon-like wings of Wythrym, the Synthoids are able to take their warfare airborne, bringing destruction from every angle.
That's right, wings! Insectoid ones, rather than feathered or leathery. Being molded in the same green as the vine arm makes them look like giant leaves, though that's probably not the intention. The set includes little plugs to fit into the holes on the Synthoid's back, to make the wings look more seamless. Unfortunately, the pegs on those are way longer than they should be, so the pieces stick out from the figure instead of sitting snugly against the back as you might think they should. The same was true of the Rumbler's Scorpion Whip, so perhaps these can be cut down as well.
The Evolution Accessory Pack is a lot wilder and more varied than the original Synthoid Accessory Pack, but that doesn't mean it's better. The whip-arm is fun, even if it breaks the established colorscheme, and the gun is cool, but the very way they're made is kind of incompatible with the toy they're meant to be supporting. It's nothing for collectors to shave the peg down so it fits into the shoulder better, but is a kid going to be happy with this? We're glad Final Faction is still releasing DLC packs for its earliest figures and are all in favor of that continuing, but hopefully the next one will be better engineered.
I just snagged a few of these guys cause of your reviews. They remind me if the M.A.R.S. Heroes aliens and robots.
The big aliens are great and the mech is sweet even more with the accessories pack. Hopefully the rest of the series can end up getting reviewed here.
Not all of them, no, but there's at least one more coming this month. Mainly now I'm waiting for Series 2, with the dog and the sniper and the Zartan-guy and that dune buggy, simply because I want to see what a toy vehicle you can buy for $1 is like.
I'd probably get the mech if it was a little more articulated. I know that's not what this line is about, but it's SO boxy that it just looks like it should be, you know? I saw someone who customized one with joints cannibalized from Lanard figures, and it just looked so cool being able to pose a little more...
Was doing some googling and it looks like the vehicle is some sorta atv/buggy thing and will have its own accessorie packs for armor and weapons.
The mech is awesome, it even has sculpted battle damage. Perhaps if the line does well enough they'll team up with some company like lannard to do fancier figures
Loving this line! Thanks for the reviews. Picked up all the members of the good guys. Could not find the bad guys though. My favorite thing is the thoughtfulness and details put into the line, like the bios on the back tgat you can cut out and save. Sgt. Steel is our fave.
I only regret that since I live in South-East Asia, there's no way I'll ever be able to even SEE any of these toys, let alone buy them. I'm glad that they're such good value for money, though.
Like, it's impossible for me to army build Black Series Stormtroopers or the upcoming G.I.Joe COBRA Troopers since they cost roughly $30 in local currency, but like you guys keep pointing out in your reviews: USD$1. That'd be about $2 here. It'd be easy to quickly build a swarm at those prices. And combine that with this accessory pack, and you'd have yourself enough variety to claim the Tyranids have spawned new beasts.
I dunno if Dollar Tree has shipping out of the USA but you can snag these guys on their site, even entire boxes of 40 figures.
