That's the real dress from Gone With the Wind on the left, and the parody on the right. The joke dress was designed by Bob Mackie - a designer so famous, you may have actually heard of him. He's even got a connection to the toy world, since several Mattel Barbies have worn Bob Mackie dresses (including one in this specific costume). The dress itself is so iconic that it's on display in the Smithsonian, so basically, it's the type of thing you should know if you want to consider yourself fluent in pop culture.
