Spider-Man Retro Collection: Carnage exclusive review

After integrating with the symbiote Venom's offspring, dangerous criminal Cletus Kasady became the ruthless villain Carnage.

This figure, a Target exclusive, is the Venom Legends Series 2 Carnage figure with a new head and a few new accessories. It's still got the detailed sculpt, it's still got the tendrils wiggling off the limbs, it's still got the clawed hands, and it's still got the bonus backpack piece. It does not have the "spiral" head (no great loss), but its new pieces are alternate weapon hands: a double-headed axe and a giant scythe. Those are sculpted with the same black veins raised off the surface, so they look like they belong here. Nicely done, Daniel Salas!

The head has white teeth, rather than black. Unlike Venom, who famously has separate teeth, Carnage is typically depicted with his fangs just being made directly out of symbiote goo. Hasbro chose to make them white here because that's the way ToyBiz painted the the 1994 figure that inspired this retro one, but the toy would still look better the other way.

Retro Collection Carnage is a great release for anyone who wasn't able to get the 2020 figure; that one was definitely hard to find, even with a subsequent re-release to try to get it out to more fans. So if you're one of the ones who never got that Carnage, then yeah, definitely grab this right away. But while the new weapons are an excellent inclusion, they're not enough by themseleves to make this a must-have if you did manage to find the last one.
